  • A delightful property and experience

"My wife and I spent a lovely week at “The Paquerie” in the middle of October. The property was beautifully situated on the side of a hill overlooking a river valley. The place was quiet and secluded yet we were within a 10 minute drive to the center of Amboise. The property is also well situated for touring the entire Loire Valley (I suggest getting off the highways and taking the back roads.) The “Troglodyte” was well appointed, updated and clean. It’s a cave but it does not feel like one. The bed was large/comfortable and the bathroom/shower was large and modern. The interior is white washed and the ceiling height was high. We had a small refrigerator for wine and snacks. The place was stocked with a complimentary bottle of Champaign as well as with tea, hot chocolate and coffee. The WiFi worked perfectly but we had no TV (We did not miss the TV.) At night the cave was absolutely quiet. We were also provided parking just in front. My wife and I could not have asked for anything more from the place. It was “Our home in the Loire” and it really did feel like home for us. Besides the obvious beauty and history of the area, one of our best experiences was having the opportunity of getting to know Therese and Brian. After just a short period of time, they really did feel like family to us. They were not intrusive in any way and engaged us as much and as often as we wanted but after spending some time with them it was very obvious to both my wife and I that they helped make our Loire experience truly unique and special. They gave us help/insight into our open itinerary with suggestions on tourist sites, driving routes, restaurants and markets. Therese was up every morning with a wonderful selection of hot croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit and homemade jams along with coffee/tea. Both Brian and Therese are insightful and intelligent people. Brian has lived and experienced life in so many ways. Our conversations with him were a true delight. I hope our paths cross again! Ann & Mark"

  • Four Australian seniors

"This property is in an excellent position to visit the many Chateaux and wineries in this area. The cottage is very comfortable for two couples with two bathrooms and very spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. The stairs could be a problem for less able people. The courtyard is a delight on warm evenings. To be able to walk to the village in two minutes for banking, fresh bread and meals is perfect. Car parking is available off street. The owner is next door and very helpful welcoming us with a bottle of local wine. We had a most enjoyable comfortable stay."

  • Wonderful!

"we chose this property because it mixed old world charm with modern conveniences. We were not disappointed!! This property is less than a one block walk to the home of Leonardo da Vinci's home and has a lot of foot traffic on the street below from 9-5 pm. However, this was not disturbing. We also considered a property across from Chateau Amboise but we were glad that was not chosen because the noise level would have been very high. This property had all the comforts of home. Great Wi-Fi, very nice and well stocked kitchen dishes, glass wear , and cutlery, quality Bed linens and towels. The property owners spoke very little English so we used a translation app to communicate since we do not speak French. This was a great place for exploring the Loire Valley Chateaux. Major Chateaux are less than an hour away. Once we parked our car at the property it is a short walk to town center for dinner or sharing a bottle of wine. We highly recommend this property if you are looking for an authentic experience in France with an in town setting."
