  • Fabulous location, wonderful host, super clean

"This is a perfect location for day trips in the Loire Valley. The apartment is modern, with more amenities than you will ever need. The bedroom has exposed beams on the wall, very lovely. Pascal was very helpful and recommended restaurants, cheese shops and bakeries all within walking distance. I would stay again!!!"

  • Rural Find

"Our party of five wanted to spend a week in the Loire exploring the area and the many chateaux. Once your travel party exceeds four, the rental possibilities are considerably diminished. Add to that the need for three separate bedrooms and facilities, the choices are even less. Finding La Menagerie was the solution that exceeded our expectations. We were fortunate to make contact with Mr. Canal since our Garmin was less than efficient that day. A responsible and charming owner, he guided us through the two-story converted ranch house and provided invaluable advice on the nearby attractions. We were able to visit most of the major chateaux, taste some wonderful Loire wines, and cook our nightly meals at "home." La Menagerie is situated in a farming area and five minutes from the village of Chitenay. You'll definitely need a car. Our group was totally satisfied with our accommodations and would not hesitate to recommend this property."

  • Fantastic place in a fantastic location.

"We just spent a fabulous week at Clos de la Bodice. It easily accommodated 16 of us (10 adults, 6 children aged 8 - 15) without it feeling cramped. We were all able to eat together - either round the covered table outside or the round table inside. The facilities are excellent. The pool was heated and both a magnet for the kids and great for playing games. The jacuzzi was bigger than most I've seen (even in the spa hotels) and ideal to either soak listening to music or watch films. The sporting facilities were also excellent - table tennis was particularly popular (and ideal for a big game of round the table - as we'd brought extra bats). There were also plenty of loungers for sunbathing. In fact, it was so pleasant to stay at the house that it was tempting not to go out and explore the sites of the Loire valley. However, there are numerous interesting places to see just a short distance away. Several of these could have been reached by bike and there were many great local bike trails and a large number of bikes to choose from (complete with helmets). Philippe was extremely welcoming and easygoing. He allowed us to bring a caravan with 4 extra people for no charge. Also, when we phoned to ask if we could exceed the max number of people in the house, he told us he was expanding the upstairs and increasing the number of beds. And true to his word, he had done this (and didn't want any extra money). He also just shrugged when we told him we'd broken a couple of glasses. Excellent place and excellent owner. Would be keen to stay there again."

  • Fantastic place for a family holiday.

"This is a really fantastic location for a family holiday. The accommodation and facilities are even better that the description, which cannot adequately describe the charm and character of this incredible old building and it's surroundings. Yet the fittings and equipment, particularly in the kitchen, are modern, comprehensive and cover all requirements - I have never seen so many different ways to make a cup of coffee!!! Christine is a charming and welcoming hostess with a real determination to do all that she can to make your visit as enjoyable as possible, yet is never intrusive. The swimming pool has everything that you could possible need, particularly for children. The only possible way to improve this accommodation would be to add a toilet to the en-suite bathroom, but that is a minor niggle compared to the overall facilities."
