  • A delightful property and experience

"My wife and I spent a lovely week at “The Paquerie” in the middle of October. The property was beautifully situated on the side of a hill overlooking a river valley. The place was quiet and secluded yet we were within a 10 minute drive to the center of Amboise. The property is also well situated for touring the entire Loire Valley (I suggest getting off the highways and taking the back roads.) The “Troglodyte” was well appointed, updated and clean. It’s a cave but it does not feel like one. The bed was large/comfortable and the bathroom/shower was large and modern. The interior is white washed and the ceiling height was high. We had a small refrigerator for wine and snacks. The place was stocked with a complimentary bottle of Champaign as well as with tea, hot chocolate and coffee. The WiFi worked perfectly but we had no TV (We did not miss the TV.) At night the cave was absolutely quiet. We were also provided parking just in front. My wife and I could not have asked for anything more from the place. It was “Our home in the Loire” and it really did feel like home for us. Besides the obvious beauty and history of the area, one of our best experiences was having the opportunity of getting to know Therese and Brian. After just a short period of time, they really did feel like family to us. They were not intrusive in any way and engaged us as much and as often as we wanted but after spending some time with them it was very obvious to both my wife and I that they helped make our Loire experience truly unique and special. They gave us help/insight into our open itinerary with suggestions on tourist sites, driving routes, restaurants and markets. Therese was up every morning with a wonderful selection of hot croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit and homemade jams along with coffee/tea. Both Brian and Therese are insightful and intelligent people. Brian has lived and experienced life in so many ways. Our conversations with him were a true delight. I hope our paths cross again! Ann & Mark"

  • Beautiful Clos du Capuchins

"We cannot emphasise how much we loved our stay here. It was like waking up to a dream every morning when you looked outside your window! Fiona was exceptionally helpful. We arrived later than expected, tired and hungry, and there was wine, baguette, terrine, and butter waiting for us! We were so thankful for that! As we arrived late once it was dark, Fiona showed us around the house that night, and the town the following day. We were shown the best baker, butcher and patisserie which was so helpful as we were there for Christmas and enjoyed a feast! Fiona also helped us call local suppliers to get produce ordered for Christmas eve! It helped us so much as none of us spoke French. 7 Adults and 2 Children stayed in this property and we had more room than we needed. It was such a special time which will stay with us forever. We hope to come back, and we would recommend this place to anyone. Chinon was also a lovely town, and everyone was really helpful and friendly despite of our very poor French!"

  • Wonderful stay in a beautiful part of France!!

"We had a wonderful 10 day stay here with our four young children. The property is absolutely beautiful, with a huge front yard green area for the kids to run and play in, secure fenced woods above on the hill behind the property, and a wonderful large circular drive that the kids had a fantastic time on with scooters provided by Marie-Noelle. Whenever we were home, the kids were outside playing. The location is excellent, very central and close to four or five of the key chateaus in Loire Valley, with many more smaller attractions close by as well. We drove to Futuroscope one day as well, which the kids absolutely loved (we highly recommend it!), saw Chambord, Chenonchau, Cheverney, Azay-le-Rideau and Villandry, all within 10-45 minutes from the property. It's perfectly situated between Tours and Amboise with easy access to either. The house is set on three floors, with a large master on the second and a very large neat top floor bedroom with plenty of room for the four kids. There are nice clean bathrooms on each of the bedroom floors. The house is very clean and feels recently renovated, with nice hardwood floors upstairs and plenty of space. The kitchen and living room are on the ground floor. The river is just minutes away, and down a bit further toward Amboise is a canoe rental facility on the river-shore. The kids had a grand time canoeing from there down to Chenonchau Chateau, about a 90 minute round trip journey on the very easy and slow-moving Cher River for about 50 Euros for two canoes and 6 people. Wonderful river trip for any young kids comfortable around water. Marie-Noelle was a wonderful owner and took great care of us, dropping off occasional fresh baked breads and cheese and helping us with any questions. The property also has a nice indoor pool that the kids swam in, although not as much as they wanted since we were out exploring the area most days."
