  • Loire Valley Vacation

"My husband and I (60's) and our son and daughter-in-law (30's) appreciated having 2 bathrooms. The property was very well maintained and as advertised. The owner was very helpful with recommendations for meals and shopping and we loved being greeted with a jar of apricot jam. We spent a week with the village as home base and with excursions to see the chateaux each day. We walked out to one of the excellent boulangers each morning, found a pleasant small restaurant for dinner and an outstanding boucherie for picnic supplies. There is a lovely path along the Cher for evening walks. I would definitely return and spend more time just enjoying the property!"

  • A beautiful holiday rental

"This was an absolutely delightful house to stay in. The booking process from Australia was seamless and the owner Anne could not have been more helpful, both before our arrival, and during our stay. I cannot tell how charming the cottage is. Anne has taken great care to decorate it in very French manner, with everything matching and co- ordinated. The result was a lovely home to come home to each evening. Many towels and white bathrobes were also supplied. It was great to have a sunny garden to sit in, that was private, quiet and peaceful. A pleasant contrast from the hustle and bustle of Paris, where we had been previously. As described, the house is in a small hamlet and not in a village, so it is not walking distance to anything. However it was only a few minutes in the car to Azay-le-Rideau, so this was not an issue for us. The house was centrally located and in a good position to explore the surrounding area. We explored from Chinon to Amboise, all easy travelling distances from Azay. Thank you Anne for sharing your lovely cottage with us and for making us so welcome."

  • Fantastic place for a family holiday.

"This is a really fantastic location for a family holiday. The accommodation and facilities are even better that the description, which cannot adequately describe the charm and character of this incredible old building and it's surroundings. Yet the fittings and equipment, particularly in the kitchen, are modern, comprehensive and cover all requirements - I have never seen so many different ways to make a cup of coffee!!! Christine is a charming and welcoming hostess with a real determination to do all that she can to make your visit as enjoyable as possible, yet is never intrusive. The swimming pool has everything that you could possible need, particularly for children. The only possible way to improve this accommodation would be to add a toilet to the en-suite bathroom, but that is a minor niggle compared to the overall facilities."

  • Great hospitality in the Loire Valley

"We felt so welcome on our recent stay with Brigitte and Gilbert. The house is lovely and the gardens a site all on their own. We came here as our first destination in France, and pulling up to such a lovely setting, with local wine and products available in the kitchen was very welcoming. The location is very central to visiting all the neighboring chateaux, but you do need your own car to get around. Although their was one very tasty restaurant about a 10 minute walk away through the woods. We had our 9 year old son with us and it was a great place for him as well. We played petanque in the afternoons, roamed around the gardens and read Tin Tin books. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in a time in the Loire Valley."

Centre-Loire Valley Travel Tips

Beautiful Centre Loire Valley Vacation Rentals

The Centre Loire Valley lies just to the southwest of Paris and is one of France's most picturesque and popular tourist regions. Lazy winding rivers, vineyards and magnificent castles dot the landscape. It's a great destination to unwind and enjoy a slower paced lifestyle.

Getting to Centre Loire Valley Accommodations

The main access city to the region is Paris. Charles de Gaulle is the primary international airport and many regional flights fly into Orly. Many travelers from the United Kingdom use the Eurostar high-speed chunnel train that runs between Paris and London. From Paris, there is an extensive rail network with a regular schedule of high-speed trains that provide easy access to the region. The roads are well maintained and driving from Paris on the motorway to most towns in the Centre Loire Valley region takes between two and four hours. The region also has many bike paths and this is a great way to explore the Loire Valley. The terrain is relatively flat and you can ride from one town to the next along the southern banks of the Loire River enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.

Enjoy the Leisurely Lifestyle of the French Countryside

The Centre Loire Valley attracts travelers that enjoy wine, landscapes, chateaux and historic architecture and those who want a vacation that has a relaxed pace. Many of the Centre Loire Valley vacation rentals are old stone farm houses set among the vineyards, or magnificent villas which overlook the river valley. Far from the modern glitzy-style city hotels, here you will really feel as though you are living the French lifestyle when on vacation. Almost all of the vacation rentals are characterized by a distinctive French elegance that makes you feel like royalty even if they are simple stone cottages. The romantic lifestyle is perfect for honeymooners or older couples celebrating a special anniversary. Stroll down the street and get a fresh baguette or croissants for breakfast and smell the welcoming aroma of fresh coffee brewing.

Exploring the Centre Loire Valley

The region has a rich cultural heritage with as many legends as there are castles and magnificent cathedrals. To truly be able to absorb all the historical sites, join up with a guided day tour in the various cities or arm yourself with a detailed guidebook before setting out on your explorations.

For those interested in the architecture and culture near Centre Loire Valley villas, you won't be disappointed. The Loire River dominates the landscape and in the grand stretch between Sancerre and Angers, there is such a high concentration of castles, palaces and mansions that the entire region has now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unless you're staying a while, it's nearly impossible to visit all the sites. Rather, pack a picnic basket filled with tasty local cheeses and wine and visit a few at a more leisurely pace.

Chatre is a small town, famous for its beautiful cathedral with its magnificent rose-stained glass windows. Wine enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the region of Touraine, well known for its Chenin Blanc, Savignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc cultivars. The area is also famous for its tasty goat cheese; because of its beauty, it has been nicknamed the "garden of France." One of France's most famous chateaux can be seen in Chenonceau and the area has a well developed tourist industry. The towns of Blois and Amboise are also worth visiting. The beautiful architecture will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time.

Best Time to Visit the Centre Loire Valley in France

Summertime is undoubtedly the best time of year to visit the region but in the peak season, from June to the end of August, it can get exceptionally busy. A way to avoid the crowds is to explore some of the Loire's tributaries and quieter secondary roads. In the spring during April and May, the valleys become a mass of green as the new shoots start to sprout on the vines. In the autumn, when the vines turn red and golden hues, you can capture some superb photographs.
