Recent Centre-Loire Valley reviews
"We stayed at Chantal's ground floor apartment for 4 nights with our 2 year old daughter. Wonderful location in the heart of Amboise but very quiet. Was lovely to see the sun setting on the Chateau while sitting at the kitchen table! Felt like home away from home, was very comfortable. Rode bikes to pick up baguette and croissants for breakfast. Highly recommended!"Guest: Kylie P. Date of Stay: June 2014 Review Submitted: July 5, 2014View listing
"A real taste of authentic French Countryside. The host was helpful and the cottage was comfortable and well stocked. The property is well situated. You need a car to explore the surrounding area."Guest: Di Date of Stay: September 2014 Review Submitted: October 1, 2014View listing
"I cannot thank Diane enough for making this house available to my friends and me for our recent vacation. It is warm, welcoming and perfect as a base to explore the French countryside or to just sit and relax. It is well stocked with dishes and cooking supplies, towels, linens and everything you could need to have a six course meal or just cook up some scrambled eggs for breakfast. There were plenty of bedrooms and the beds were comfortable. It was great that we each could have our own bathroom. There is a great book she has prepared with recommendations about activities, restaurants and just general info. We were fortunate that Diane was in residence in her portion of the property so were able to spend some time with her. Her restaurant recommendations were superb, particularly L'Auberge de l'Ecole about 20 minutes away. We has an incredible meal served by a friendly and helpful staff. Meusnes is not a hotbed of activity but the nearby town, Selles Sur Cher has a lot to offer including a great weekly market, cafes and restaurants. From our base we took daily excursions to le Chateau de Chenonceau, the Zoo Beauval (not to be missed), Blois, Tours, and several other areas. The drive through the French countryside was beautiful and not to be missed. The house was easy to get to from Paris. We rented a car in Paris and drove down using the GPS I had brought from home. No problems, not hard getting out of Paris and a fairly easy 2.5 - 3 hour drive. This is a great house for friends to share or for a family or an extended family vacation. It would work well with multi generations. I would love to be able to stay for a month, hosting various friends to visit and really becoming part of the French country life. Maybe when I retire..... Thank you, Diane"Guest: Janet H. Date of Stay: April 2014 Review Submitted: May 2, 2014View listing
"Relaxing, beautiful, comfortable! If you want an extremely pleasant experience, you have found the place to stay. After a fun day exploring Amboise and its environs, my grown family of five would return to this lovely retreat and have a great night's sleep. Thank you, Karine and Thierry, for providing such a lovely apartment for our use. It is a little slice of heaven!"Guest: Valerie V. Centre-Loire Valley Travel Tips
Beautiful Centre Loire Valley Vacation Rentals
The Centre Loire Valley lies just to the southwest of Paris and is one of France's most picturesque and popular tourist regions. Lazy winding rivers, vineyards and magnificent castles dot the landscape. It's a great destination to unwind and enjoy a slower paced lifestyle.
Getting to Centre Loire Valley Accommodations
The main access city to the region is Paris. Charles de Gaulle is the primary international airport and many regional flights fly into Orly. Many travelers from the United Kingdom use the Eurostar high-speed chunnel train that runs between Paris and London. From Paris, there is an extensive rail network with a regular schedule of high-speed trains that provide easy access to the region. The roads are well maintained and driving from Paris on the motorway to most towns in the Centre Loire Valley region takes between two and four hours. The region also has many bike paths and this is a great way to explore the Loire Valley. The terrain is relatively flat and you can ride from one town to the next along the southern banks of the Loire River enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.
Enjoy the Leisurely Lifestyle of the French Countryside
The Centre Loire Valley attracts travelers that enjoy wine, landscapes, chateaux and historic architecture and those who want a vacation that has a relaxed pace. Many of the Centre Loire Valley vacation rentals are old stone farm houses set among the vineyards, or magnificent villas which overlook the river valley. Far from the modern glitzy-style city hotels, here you will really feel as though you are living the French lifestyle when on vacation. Almost all of the vacation rentals are characterized by a distinctive French elegance that makes you feel like royalty even if they are simple stone cottages. The romantic lifestyle is perfect for honeymooners or older couples celebrating a special anniversary. Stroll down the street and get a fresh baguette or croissants for breakfast and smell the welcoming aroma of fresh coffee brewing.
Exploring the Centre Loire Valley
The region has a rich cultural heritage with as many legends as there are castles and magnificent cathedrals. To truly be able to absorb all the historical sites, join up with a guided day tour in the various cities or arm yourself with a detailed guidebook before setting out on your explorations.
For those interested in the architecture and culture near Centre Loire Valley villas, you won't be disappointed. The Loire River dominates the landscape and in the grand stretch between Sancerre and Angers, there is such a high concentration of castles, palaces and mansions that the entire region has now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unless you're staying a while, it's nearly impossible to visit all the sites. Rather, pack a picnic basket filled with tasty local cheeses and wine and visit a few at a more leisurely pace.
Chatre is a small town, famous for its beautiful cathedral with its magnificent rose-stained glass windows. Wine enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the region of Touraine, well known for its Chenin Blanc, Savignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc cultivars. The area is also famous for its tasty goat cheese; because of its beauty, it has been nicknamed the "garden of France." One of France's most famous chateaux can be seen in Chenonceau and the area has a well developed tourist industry. The towns of Blois and Amboise are also worth visiting. The beautiful architecture will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time.
Best Time to Visit the Centre Loire Valley in France
Summertime is undoubtedly the best time of year to visit the region but in the peak season, from June to the end of August, it can get exceptionally busy. A way to avoid the crowds is to explore some of the Loire's tributaries and quieter secondary roads. In the spring during April and May, the valleys become a mass of green as the new shoots start to sprout on the vines. In the autumn, when the vines turn red and golden hues, you can capture some superb photographs.
