  • Absolute heaven in the Loire Valley

"I cannot find the words to express the magic of our holiday at Chateau des Grotteaux. We assembled a group of 33 family and friends here and our only disappointment was having to leave. Pierre Antoine, the owner, was very responsive leading up to our arrival and was helpful in recommending caterer and bike rentals, among other things. Our group spent the majority of our time eating and lounging by the large and beautiful pool as the weather was perfect all week, ranging from low 60s in the mornings to around 80 late in the day. We organized bikes to be delivered to the chateau and biked from there to Blois, Cheverny, and Chambord, with wine tasting stops in the surrounding countryside, all on the extensive bike trail system that covers the area. Tennis tournaments were arranged for the tennis court, which is accessed by a short walk through the enchanting forest. We also arranged for two formal dinners to be served in the large dining room which easily accommodated our large numbers. The caterer provided a simple breakfast each morning, which we supplemented with fruit and cereal. Fresh vegetables were ordered from the neighboring farm. We also used the pool kitchen for several big, collaboratively cooked meals. The kitchen is well stocked, and the huge grill (supplied with charcoal) is fantastic! The kitchens could use a few better knives and some roasting pans, though they were never lacking in plates, cutlery, glasses and serving dishes. The master bedrooms are sumptuously decorated and everything was well cleaned and cared for. The Norma suite of rooms made a perfect kid den and Pierre Antoine brought in several extra beds to accommodate the large number of kids we had between us. There are three sound systems supplied, in the living room, basement cafe and pool area, as well as a large AV system in the living room for showing DVDs or presentations. Thank you to Pierre Antoine for caring for our every need and providing such a beautiful place for us. Truly a chateau of fairy tales!"

  • Beautiful and Well Situated Accommodation

"We couldn't have been more pleased with our accommodations at this lovely house in May. Although we did not meet the owners in person, Rosemary was just an e-mail or phone call away and she was extremely helpful in recommending sites to see and places to eat and visit. The garden is lovely in May, the house was spacious and comfortable, and the location is perfect for visiting the chateaux of the Loire Valley. The owners left a bottle of wine in the fridge, cozy terry cloth robes in the bathroom, and a computer and cell phone for us to use while we were at the house. We felt that we were personal guests of the owners. The town (and castle) of Blois are just a few minutes away. We would definitely recommend this house!"

  • Fabulous location, wonderful host, super clean

"This is a perfect location for day trips in the Loire Valley. The apartment is modern, with more amenities than you will ever need. The bedroom has exposed beams on the wall, very lovely. Pascal was very helpful and recommended restaurants, cheese shops and bakeries all within walking distance. I would stay again!!!"

  • Wonderful Stay in the Loire

"My friends and I had a wonderful stay in Le Cardinal - it was a perfect location for the part of the Loire we wanted to explore. Steven & Veronica were wonderful hosts and could not have been more helpful! The house was very comfortable and had everything we could possibly need - including champagne glasses!"

Centre-Loire Valley Travel Tips

Beautiful Centre Loire Valley Vacation Rentals

The Centre Loire Valley lies just to the southwest of Paris and is one of France's most picturesque and popular tourist regions. Lazy winding rivers, vineyards and magnificent castles dot the landscape. It's a great destination to unwind and enjoy a slower paced lifestyle.

Getting to Centre Loire Valley Accommodations

The main access city to the region is Paris. Charles de Gaulle is the primary international airport and many regional flights fly into Orly. Many travelers from the United Kingdom use the Eurostar high-speed chunnel train that runs between Paris and London. From Paris, there is an extensive rail network with a regular schedule of high-speed trains that provide easy access to the region. The roads are well maintained and driving from Paris on the motorway to most towns in the Centre Loire Valley region takes between two and four hours. The region also has many bike paths and this is a great way to explore the Loire Valley. The terrain is relatively flat and you can ride from one town to the next along the southern banks of the Loire River enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.

Enjoy the Leisurely Lifestyle of the French Countryside

The Centre Loire Valley attracts travelers that enjoy wine, landscapes, chateaux and historic architecture and those who want a vacation that has a relaxed pace. Many of the Centre Loire Valley vacation rentals are old stone farm houses set among the vineyards, or magnificent villas which overlook the river valley. Far from the modern glitzy-style city hotels, here you will really feel as though you are living the French lifestyle when on vacation. Almost all of the vacation rentals are characterized by a distinctive French elegance that makes you feel like royalty even if they are simple stone cottages. The romantic lifestyle is perfect for honeymooners or older couples celebrating a special anniversary. Stroll down the street and get a fresh baguette or croissants for breakfast and smell the welcoming aroma of fresh coffee brewing.

Exploring the Centre Loire Valley

The region has a rich cultural heritage with as many legends as there are castles and magnificent cathedrals. To truly be able to absorb all the historical sites, join up with a guided day tour in the various cities or arm yourself with a detailed guidebook before setting out on your explorations.

For those interested in the architecture and culture near Centre Loire Valley villas, you won't be disappointed. The Loire River dominates the landscape and in the grand stretch between Sancerre and Angers, there is such a high concentration of castles, palaces and mansions that the entire region has now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unless you're staying a while, it's nearly impossible to visit all the sites. Rather, pack a picnic basket filled with tasty local cheeses and wine and visit a few at a more leisurely pace.

Chatre is a small town, famous for its beautiful cathedral with its magnificent rose-stained glass windows. Wine enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the region of Touraine, well known for its Chenin Blanc, Savignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc cultivars. The area is also famous for its tasty goat cheese; because of its beauty, it has been nicknamed the "garden of France." One of France's most famous chateaux can be seen in Chenonceau and the area has a well developed tourist industry. The towns of Blois and Amboise are also worth visiting. The beautiful architecture will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time.

Best Time to Visit the Centre Loire Valley in France

Summertime is undoubtedly the best time of year to visit the region but in the peak season, from June to the end of August, it can get exceptionally busy. A way to avoid the crowds is to explore some of the Loire's tributaries and quieter secondary roads. In the spring during April and May, the valleys become a mass of green as the new shoots start to sprout on the vines. In the autumn, when the vines turn red and golden hues, you can capture some superb photographs.
