  • A country retreat in the Loire Valley

"The loft was a perfect retreat after the bustle of Paris. So quiet and loved driving along the country lanes to get to the chateaux. A long soak in the bath with a glass of wine after walking all day did the trick. Great hosts you made sure we had everything we needed and more even grapes picked right off the pergola. You must have dinner at Le Flueray restaurant as impeccable."

  • Home Away from Home

"We lacked for nothing in this beautiful apartment. Incredibly well equipped with everything one could need, our apartment was spacious and lovely with beautiful antiques. For those of us who need to be connected 24/7, the wi fi was very fast and never let us down. We were close to restaurants in town, yet secluded behind a medieval wall, with a gorgeous garden. The owners, Elice and Jean Louis could not have been more gracious or generous. We loved our week here, and visited many chateaus in the Loire but were always very happy to come “home” every evening."

  • Ten stars - the best.

"We have rented apartments in Paris and other places; but Le Clos De Venise was the best we have ever experienced. I can not begin to say enough good things about Le Clos De Venise - and its charming, friendly and caring owners - Claude and Francine. There were three of us (adults) and we stayed for just a month in the summer of 2014. Our regret is that we did not stay for two months - or three. Almost every day we visited chateau’s - ate déjeuner with wine out on the lawn in front of the house - then drove into Amboise for dinner. Life does not get better than this. Thank you so much, Claude & Francine - for our best vacation in years. Jim & Margaret & Cordelia"

  • Fantastic place in a fantastic location.

"We just spent a fabulous week at Clos de la Bodice. It easily accommodated 16 of us (10 adults, 6 children aged 8 - 15) without it feeling cramped. We were all able to eat together - either round the covered table outside or the round table inside. The facilities are excellent. The pool was heated and both a magnet for the kids and great for playing games. The jacuzzi was bigger than most I've seen (even in the spa hotels) and ideal to either soak listening to music or watch films. The sporting facilities were also excellent - table tennis was particularly popular (and ideal for a big game of round the table - as we'd brought extra bats). There were also plenty of loungers for sunbathing. In fact, it was so pleasant to stay at the house that it was tempting not to go out and explore the sites of the Loire valley. However, there are numerous interesting places to see just a short distance away. Several of these could have been reached by bike and there were many great local bike trails and a large number of bikes to choose from (complete with helmets). Philippe was extremely welcoming and easygoing. He allowed us to bring a caravan with 4 extra people for no charge. Also, when we phoned to ask if we could exceed the max number of people in the house, he told us he was expanding the upstairs and increasing the number of beds. And true to his word, he had done this (and didn't want any extra money). He also just shrugged when we told him we'd broken a couple of glasses. Excellent place and excellent owner. Would be keen to stay there again."

Centre-Loire Valley Travel Tips

Beautiful Centre Loire Valley Vacation Rentals

The Centre Loire Valley lies just to the southwest of Paris and is one of France's most picturesque and popular tourist regions. Lazy winding rivers, vineyards and magnificent castles dot the landscape. It's a great destination to unwind and enjoy a slower paced lifestyle.

Getting to Centre Loire Valley Accommodations

The main access city to the region is Paris. Charles de Gaulle is the primary international airport and many regional flights fly into Orly. Many travelers from the United Kingdom use the Eurostar high-speed chunnel train that runs between Paris and London. From Paris, there is an extensive rail network with a regular schedule of high-speed trains that provide easy access to the region. The roads are well maintained and driving from Paris on the motorway to most towns in the Centre Loire Valley region takes between two and four hours. The region also has many bike paths and this is a great way to explore the Loire Valley. The terrain is relatively flat and you can ride from one town to the next along the southern banks of the Loire River enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.

Enjoy the Leisurely Lifestyle of the French Countryside

The Centre Loire Valley attracts travelers that enjoy wine, landscapes, chateaux and historic architecture and those who want a vacation that has a relaxed pace. Many of the Centre Loire Valley vacation rentals are old stone farm houses set among the vineyards, or magnificent villas which overlook the river valley. Far from the modern glitzy-style city hotels, here you will really feel as though you are living the French lifestyle when on vacation. Almost all of the vacation rentals are characterized by a distinctive French elegance that makes you feel like royalty even if they are simple stone cottages. The romantic lifestyle is perfect for honeymooners or older couples celebrating a special anniversary. Stroll down the street and get a fresh baguette or croissants for breakfast and smell the welcoming aroma of fresh coffee brewing.

Exploring the Centre Loire Valley

The region has a rich cultural heritage with as many legends as there are castles and magnificent cathedrals. To truly be able to absorb all the historical sites, join up with a guided day tour in the various cities or arm yourself with a detailed guidebook before setting out on your explorations.

For those interested in the architecture and culture near Centre Loire Valley villas, you won't be disappointed. The Loire River dominates the landscape and in the grand stretch between Sancerre and Angers, there is such a high concentration of castles, palaces and mansions that the entire region has now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unless you're staying a while, it's nearly impossible to visit all the sites. Rather, pack a picnic basket filled with tasty local cheeses and wine and visit a few at a more leisurely pace.

Chatre is a small town, famous for its beautiful cathedral with its magnificent rose-stained glass windows. Wine enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the region of Touraine, well known for its Chenin Blanc, Savignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc cultivars. The area is also famous for its tasty goat cheese; because of its beauty, it has been nicknamed the "garden of France." One of France's most famous chateaux can be seen in Chenonceau and the area has a well developed tourist industry. The towns of Blois and Amboise are also worth visiting. The beautiful architecture will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time.

Best Time to Visit the Centre Loire Valley in France

Summertime is undoubtedly the best time of year to visit the region but in the peak season, from June to the end of August, it can get exceptionally busy. A way to avoid the crowds is to explore some of the Loire's tributaries and quieter secondary roads. In the spring during April and May, the valleys become a mass of green as the new shoots start to sprout on the vines. In the autumn, when the vines turn red and golden hues, you can capture some superb photographs.
