Encore merci. Cath et Jack (les gens du Nord)"

  • Excellent location - great family holiday base

"We are a family of four, including a 19 and 17 year-old, who spent the first two weeks of August 2013 in Calvi, courtesy of the Orsonis and their house and "wild garden". The house is located close (but not too close) to the large and well-stocked supermarket (5 minutes walk) and Calvi's lovely beach (7 minutes) and near to the town centre (just over 10 minutes walk, with lots of good family-friendly restaurants). The house has plenty of space (with good sized bedrooms) and a kitchen a family of four could eat and cook in. The lounge (next to the front door) is small; but given there is a fantastic garden area to sit in, it is not a problem. Although there are other holiday apartments in the same block, the well-arranged fences and lovely trees and tropical plants mean you still get a lot of privacy. The Orsonis were really helpful but not intrusive; the town is thriving and has a great atmosphere, with a good range of restaurants where the menu prix fixe was very good. We had a car and travelled down the west coast to sightsee - some glorious scenery and lovely coastline. We took the local train over to Ile Rousse - which was a fun trip; get on at Calvi, not the beach stops, if you want a seat! Overall, this was one of the best places we have stayed at in the last ten years (having had great villas in Sardinia, Croatia, Greece and Spain) - the town is a thriving resort and the Orsonis have a villa that we would happily return to."

Corsica Travel Tips

French Charm at Corsica Vacation Rentals

If you have ever dreamed about the romance of the French Mediterranean lifestyle, then Corsica is the place where you can get to experience it. Beautiful old buildings, quaint towns and majestic views over the Mediterranean are all part of Corsica’s charm. It’s a place where you can relax and explore at your own pace. Having a vacation home is one of the best ways to do this. Choose from cozy beachfront villas or majestic stone mansions. Revel in ornate French décor and relax in beautifully manicured gardens that have views stretching to the horizon. Take a stroll down to the corner bakery for fresh baguettes and pick up some delicious cheeses and meats from the village deli. This is the lifestyle you can expect to experience in Corsica. Warm, relaxed and romantic will be the flavor of your vacation.

Historical Explorations near Corsica Accommodations

Corsica is perhaps most famous as being the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. He was born in the capital city of Ajaccio and baptized in the beautiful renaissance cathedral there. If you visit the old town known as the Place Marchel Foch, you can stop in at Bonaparte’s birthplace and visit the Cathedrale Notre Dame de la Misericorde where the marble baptismal font still stands.

The island of Corsica is characterized by quaint towns with cobbled streets and beautiful old architecture. Each town has its own historic sites, interesting museums and local legends that makes for fascinating exploring. Food and drink are in true Mediterranean style a celebration of life. Enjoy delicious local cuisine at the many restaurants and street side cafés.

Life carries on here at a slow and leisurely pace as it has for many centuries. One of the best ways to explore the island is on a scooter or bicycle. In that way, you can easily hop from town to town and then explore the streets and attractions further by foot. There are many hiking trails on the island that offer magnificent views.

The island has a number of beautiful beaches that sun lovers flock to in the summertime. The three most famous beaches are Palombaggia Beach and Saint Giulia Beach, both of which are located near the town of Porto Vecchio in the south, and Calvi Beach which runs for several kilometers north up the coast from the town of Calvi. This beach is most popular with families as it has a safe swimming area and there are loads of snack bars along the beachfront.

Traveling to Corsica Villas

There are four airports in total on Corsica. The two major airports are Aeroport de Ajaccio Campo Dell’Oro and Aeroport de Bastia-Poretta. They are more commonly known as Ajaccio and Bastia Airports due to their proximity to these two towns. Most international visitors will route via one of the major airport hubs in Europe and then on to Corsica. Most major European carriers fly into either one of these two airports. The two smaller airports host regional airlines and charter flights. In the summertime, ferries operate from France, Italy and the nearby island of Sardinia to Corsica.

Best Time of Year to Travel to Corsica

Located in the Mediterranean, Corsica has a mild temperate climate. Winters can be stormy and cool and the preferred season to visit is therefore the summer. The days start to warm from April and by July and August, the summer nights are hot and balmy. Peak season is during the European summer vacation period of July and August, during which the island can get a bit crowded. But this all adds to Corsica’s charm and vibrant atmosphere.
