"This was our first visit to Paris. 10 days to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We wanted an apartment that was safe, clean, quiet and affordable. Given we had a limited budget, we were concerned that by spending less than the going rate on comparable units elsewhere in the city, we would sacrifice on one of the other three criteria. We were very pleased that by the end of our stay, we could honestly say that we didn't have to compromise on what was important to us.
First, it is very conveniently located from a transportation standpoint. It is surrounded by 3 train/subway stations that are 1-3 blocks distance....so all very walkable. In fact, it is very easy to just take the RER(train) from the airport, transfer once, and it is only a 3 block walk from the fabulous Gare De Lyon station. No car or cab fare necessary...ever....if you are staying in the city. Even when we traveled to Versailles, it was all so easy by train/subway.
The apartment itself is very clean. Small by US standards, but good for a Parisian flat, and larger than a hotel room, even if you spent 30% more. Kitchen gives you everything you need and the washer/dryer came in very handy for a 10 day stay. I personally think it would be too small to have 3-4 people, but it all depends on what your expectations are. Neighbors are quiet. On the second floor. Small elevator, but we usually just used the stairway since it was quicker.
The neighborhood faces out on the canal, and this scenic pathway, lined with boats, allows you to enjoy a pleasurable stroll down to the Bastile area. In fact, a quick walk over the canal bridge brings you into the 4th arrondisement, which puts you into all of the sites and experienes one expects from Paris. There are many bakeries and numerous classic French bistros (cafes) in the surrounding area. A good sized grocery store is only 1.5 blocks distance.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the owner, Manuel. He is affable and extremely helpful. He gave us a complete orientation on the apartment, and made himself available for questions, especially in the first two days when you're just getting your bearings. He treated us well.
What are the downsides of the apartment? There are windows, but no real view. If you want to be able to sit in your apartment and stare out on a lovely view of Paris, go somewhere else, but you will pay $$$ for it. We would rather visit the sites and spend the evening in the apartment."
