"Google Streetview before signing up: Big KFC place on the corner! Aarghhh! So to get that out of the way once and for all: Yes, it’s there, but irrelevant. You go about 25 meters to the end of the cul-de-sac, where a door admits you to a world apart. A true oasis of peace, guarded by 3 friendly cats. A little gated “compound” of low-rise “cottages”, plus three 4-story apt buildings, of which “ours” is furthest to the rear, totally secluded, reached via a plant-lined path, a veritable country lane. Magical, really.
The flat, reached by lift, is wonderfully light. The beautifully equipped kitchen had tons of staples including olive oil, salt, pepper, spices, and much more. Dining table seats 6 comfortably. Living has a huge double-height window, L-shaped sofa, and coffee table. Upstairs, overlooking the living, the study has a small TV, desk and chairs, printer/scanner which actually works, router for the excellent wifi, and a good single daybed, a welcome refuge from a snoring partner. The study leads via a heavy curtain into the double bedroom, with firm bed and good storage. Bath is en-suite, with a straightforward shower, plenty of hot water, and great water pressure. Tons of bed and bath linens.
Noise? We heard NOTHING, with the exception of the occupant of the flat immediately above quietly padding about. No loud music. No loud conversations. Perfect.
Transport? Metro and buses 2 minutes’ walk.
Neighborhood? Entirely French. No tourists. Supermarket 90 seconds’ walk. 3 bio stores within 5 minutes. Excellent cheesemonger and butcher. Lovely postage-stamp-sized park west along Alesia, plus delightful Parc Montsouris 20 minutes’ walk the other way. Plenty of restaurants/bistros/cafés within steps.
“Negatives”? No dishwasher. Bed is about the size of an American double, about to be replaced by the a 160cm-wide bed, wider than an American queen-size bed. There is no A/C, no problem 80% of the time. In summer, it is something to consider. We were lucky: The extreme heat was in late June/first half July this year. Out of our four-week stay, one week was 20-23C (wonderful!), otherwise mostly 27-29, just tolerable. For about 5 days, temps rose to 30-35, too much for the flat despite the many fans which did help. Simple portable A/C units for the bedroom and living area would be ideal.
We loved our experience at Impasse du Rouet, and we intend to be back soon!"
