  • A great location for first time travelers to France

"We have stayed here 2 years in a row and have already booked again for this year. It truly has a home away from home comfort factor. For our first time to France, we stayed a week in a Paris, then took 2 days to drive to Cuxac-Cabardes, even though you can do it in one. After the hustle and bustle of the city, it was absolutely amazing to find this fairy tale little village nestled in the foothills of the Montagne Noir. La Pierre is a 400 year old stone Village house that still retains all the charm of yesteryear, but has all the modern conveniences you need. As you approach for the first time you are amazed at the tiny street it is located on as it will barely fit a normal size car. No Hummers down this street!! Parking is mere steps away and plentiful. The house easily accommodates 6 people with it's 3 bedrooms and large dining table. The main floor contains the main living areas and a half bath, and the three bedrooms and full bath are on the 2nd floor. The owners provide everything you need and only expect you to replace items you have used up such as toilet paper etc. There is Internet at the house, and the owners provide a book that contains everything like passwords, instruction on operating the fireplace etc and contact information as well as suggestions on where to shop and where to visit. The English/French speaking couple who look after the house and give you the key are friendly and approachable and live just a few doors away should you have questions. And the things to see and do are incredible to say the least. Location is everything and this house has it. In less than 30 minutes you can visit the bustling ancient city of Carcassonne, or drive in to the mountains visiting sites you having only imagined or walk along the Canal du Midi. Just over an hours drive is the Mediterranean Sea and beautiful ancient towns and Roman ruins. You can dine at many fine restaurants in the area, most of the fun is shopping at the local markets and stores for some of the best produce, cheese, breads and wines you have had. While you could manage without a car if you just wanted a quiet getaway, having one is highly recommended for sight seeing. If you truly want to experience what it is like to live in the south of France, then this is the place for you. We can't recommend it enough."

  • Couldn't be better

"My two friends and I have stayed at a variety of VRBO homes in France over the last five years--and this is the best yet. It's comfortable and tasteful, lovely old French furniture, easy living. Bruce, the owner, is really helpful, and the house has all kinds of little thoughtful touches that make staying there a delight. The setting is gorgeous with a view toward the mountains, yet it isn't too far from town. We were ready for some serious R&R, so the quietness of the place suited us wonderfully. Enjoy!"

  • Spacious house in beautiful and peaceful landscape

"Very nice property in the beautiful and peaceful landscape of Carcassonne. Hosts are very nice and friendly. We tremendously enjoyed the swimming pool, barbecue and spacious house and garden, large enough to play football. Winery's and an famous old castle are close by (under half an hour drive), so ideal for day visits. Property is recommended!"
