Great value in a very unique property.
"Let me start by saying that I have stayed in approximately 35 vacation rental properties in the last 10 years in the USA, Spain, Portugal, France and the UK. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, apartment rentals "are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get." There are often surprises some good, and some not so good. This one had a lot of good surprise. First, it has a wonderful shower; good water pressure, ample room, and that most welcome of bathroom amenities for Americans, a shower curtain to keep the water in the shower. It also has the absolute BEST laundry equipment in any rental that I have ever seen. The equipment was easy to use and the dryer was a real dryer, not a wire rack. The Cathar Cottage is very roomy. My wife and I traveled alone but if you have a couple of kids (age 6 and up) they would absolutely love this place. It has an third level for the kids to sleep in that kids will love. Pennautier is a very small village but it is a short drive to Carcassonne. There are also great day trips you can make such as Minerve and Lastours. Lastours is a super place to see and only about 30 minutes away. You can hike up to 4 sets of castle ruins and it isn't that strenuous a hike (or I wouldn't have done it). Great views of the countryside. If you drive in this village I suggest that you do not drive your car down the street that the apartment is on. The bottom of the street narrows drastically. Just park on the main street above the apartment and wheel your luggage down the hill about 50 meters. Hey, nothing's perfect. Making the arrangements was very easy and the owners were super nice and prompt with all communication. I would highly recommend this apartment."

Very close to the old city. Lovely clean apartment
"A beautifully clean and well maintained apartment with everything you require. Very close to the lovely old city....you can see the walled city from the lounge/kitchen windows. Well equipped with everything you require for a comfortable stay. An amazing abundance of excellent cafes/bars/restaurants to choose from in the old city. The listing description was accurate with regards location, layout, facilities etc. Ludovic provided excellent customer service. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to a friend or relative and we would hope to use it again in the future."

"Excellent villa for big family. We had a really good time there with sunny weather mostly (unfortunately with a cold wind). The garden was extensively used by us for sports, sunbathing and BBQing. Supermarkets and the beautiful city of Carcassonne are conveniently closeby.
Only drawbacks were the noise from the autoroute, which is close by and depending on the wind can be very well heard sitting in the garden (indoors it is not a problem), and the swimming pool temperature, which never managed to get close to the advertised 28 degrees (the continuing cold wind might be to blame for that).
If we would plan another family outing in the same region, we would strongly contemplate coming here again!"

An amazing cottage in the middle of Cathar countryside
"After a very long travel we found out this warmly welcoming and highly confortable cottage in Montazels. As we planned a lot of trips around, the situation of the cottage offered easy accessibility to many places. We were happy to explore Chateau de Peyrepertuse, Cité de Carcassonne, Gorges du Verdouble, Salines in Bages and Peyriac-de-Mer, Rennes-les-Bains and also took a bike trip along the Canal du Midi. We spent a wonderful but also quite busy week in this cosy cottage and felt really sorry when leaving. Cannot forget the stunning view from the windows ... Hope to come back again ..."
