  • This house, location, and hostess are exceptional in every way.

"Our stay at 'Un Bateau' was wonderful. We, two American couples, all agree that our stay here in Port-en-Bessin was the highlight of our two weeks in France. It was ideal in every way: the location in such a picturesque and friendly town, the ocean, the fishing fleet and fish market, the street market, the shops, the Normandie coast, beaches, WWII history. What made our stay particularly memorable though was, specifically, this gite. The tasteful renovation and incredible attention to every detail was noticable wherever one looked. The owner's knack is to retain the old and incorporate the new using high quality craftsmanship in every phase: construction, appliances, fabrics, antique furnishings, decorative items, lighting. Her dedication to making it comfortable, beautiful, and charming was clear. Her design aesthetic was obvious and we thoroughly appreciated marvelling at it. It is fully equipped with high quality modern conveniences. The bathrooms are amazing. Although we were not travelling with children, we noticed that she has provided a play room with a supply of pails and shovels for the beach, games, and even a little row of rubber boots in varying sizes. I don't think it is possible to over emphasize the quality of this place. Then, of course, there was Laurence, herself. She made everything so easy and was so very warm and hospitable. Quite simply, a lovely lady. It was a genuine pleasure to make her acquaintance and we hope to go back some day."

  • A Real Gem

"Ten of us stayed five nights in this strikingly lovely home. The photos don't do it justice. The interior decorations are classic yet modern, and all quite tasteful. The three floors accommodated our group with no one feeling crowded (though the last stair to the third floor is a challenge). The location, so close to Juno Beach, is a wonderful place for touring Normandy and the D-Day Beach sites, but we also made trips to Giverny, Rouen, and Mont St. Michel. There was also a boulangerie just a short walk away. No complaints at all, except for the entry and exit. Since we had said we would clean it ourselves, we were met by a woman speaking only French who repeatedly insisted that it took her six hours to clean the house and showed all the things she wanted done, including cleaning out the drains in the showers. When we were leaving, in order to get the cash security deposit returned, I went through a military inspection that reminded me of my Marine Corps Basic Training days. Still, it was a wonderful house and location and I recommend it highly. One additional warning - the house is elaborately decorated with many fine things. I don't know that I would be comfortable bringing children though there were toys available and a huge yard for playing."

  • Great B&B in Normandy

"We loved staying with Jackie! My husband, daughter and I enjoyed the very comfortable upstairs bedrooms with separate bathrooms. Great breakfast every morning to start the day. Jackie was very hospitable and helped us with maps, driving, and even printed an airline boarding ticket for us. She made a dinner reservation and helped us with any questions as well as a bit of history of the region. The view from front porch is gorgeous French farmland. We visited in the late fall and were happy we had a GPS in our car, as it got dark early and the property is not so easy to find. Would stay again any time!"

  • Excellent

"We recently returned from this property after a two week holiday we were a family group of 7 adults and 3 children under five. Our holiday was wonderful, the house has a lovely homely feel well furnished and equipped the garden is a joy, completely safe and lots of space for the little ones, and outdoor eating a pleasure. It is not often you can be enjoying lunch and have racehorses thunder past the end of the garden! If you have the opportunity an afternoon at the races is a must. The supermarket is a 10 minute walk to the right a lovely pastry shop 10 minutes to the left (best croisssoints ever) and the beach less than 10 minutes straight ahead, and Chrystelle is very helpful if there is anything you need. All in all an excellent holiday."
