Recent Aix en Provence property reviews

  • Excellent holiday spot

"We chose this property based on the excellent reviews of past guests. We can only add that we too can only re-iterate the glowing praise that everyone had for the property and especially for Rachel and Jean, the hosts. The position is perfect just on the outskirts of Aix. We had a car but didn't bother to drive, as the walk was so pleasant. There is also a regular bus from the nearby council parking for unlimited daily trips to town for 2 euro. If returning to Provence we would stay again without a moment's hesitation."

  • Fantastic apartment in the heart of Aix

"I have just returned from a delightful 8 day stay at Donal’s apartment in Aix-en-Provence. I traveled with my mother and my sister and we each had a bedroom in his spacious flat. The rental cost included one airport transfer, so we chose to have Donal pick us up from Marseille in his comfortable van and it was helpful to have a local expert (who is also the property owner) pointing out items of interest and then helping us settle in. And carrying our luggage up the 34 stairs to his apartment! The apartment couldn’t be in a better location. It’s not actually ON the Cours Mirabeau, but in a parallel street, only steps away, off rue d’Italie. Rue d’Italie is a wonderful street, filled with bakeries, butcher shops, restaurants, wine shops and a fantastic Italian delicatessen, so it was easy to nip out to get provisions for a five-star meal. Donal’s street is much quieter, with no passing traffic, except for residents. We found it nice and quiet at all times, with the only noise being the peal of church bells each morning, calling the faithful to prayer. Donal also offers tours, and because we didn’t want to rent a car, we used his services on three separate occasions to venture into the countryside. He was a font of knowledge on all things French, and devised marvelous itineraries to ensure that we saw as much as we could on each outing. We certainly could not have accomplished this ourselves, plus we had his delightful chatter along the way. In fact, Donal’s apartment, and his entertaining personality, made our trip."

  • Home away from home

"Provence will forever be in my heart! This summer was the second visit to the area as well as the house which has become as familiar to us as our own home, so truly a home away from home....and what a home it is! We love what the owners have done to the place, 2 new bathrooms since we were there last (summer of 2009) and as comfortable and plenty of amenities as we remember the first time plus more. The property itself and outside near the pool area is always enjoyable and relaxing on days we didn't feel like driving around sightseeing. We did more exploring this time around and still found that the house is located in the most convenient area , close enough to some of the lovely little towns along Cote d'Azur as well as vineyards and medieval cities that we discovered along the way. We love going into Aix (which is a 5 minute drive from the house) and visiting the different markets they have very often during the week. Under the platanes it's even more enjoyable on a hot summer day. The owners have plenty of guides and pamphlets to help you discover and explore if you wish and we enjoyed meeting the housekeeper Julia and her family as well as Philippe the gardener , who all had lots of great advice and places they suggested to visit. Thank you once again to everyone for making our stay even more pleasurable."

  • Understated Sophistication

"This apartment was an ideal base from which to explore Aix and the surrounding area. It is located within easy walking distance of the Gare and of the Cours Miribeau. The photos do not do the apartment justice - it is much better. It has been renovated and decorated with style and sophistication. Nothing about the fixtures and amenities can be faulted. The living area opens onto a lovely south facing balcony which overlooks gardens and a general vista to the south. Adjacent to the living area is an area which can be used as a second bedroom with a sofa bed or as we did, as a study. The kitchen is small but well equipped with all the usual facilities. The light and airy bedroom is very large and the king size bed is of good quality. A separate walk in wardrobe is a bonus for travellers such as us with lots to hang up. Bathroom and toilet have both been renovated to a high standard. All in all, this apartment can comfortably accommodate two couples. The owner, Marie Christine, lives in the secure complex and is ever ready to assist and provide advice. She welcomed us on arrival and assisted with parking and settling in. This stay was week 10 of a 13 week sojourn in France. This apartment was the best of the many we stayed in. We can say no more except highly recommend this beautiful apartment."
