  • Magic

"This is truly a gem of a place in a magical part of the world. Not only is the location incredible but the apartment has a tranquil feel to it, so that even though you are overlooking a square, you feel so calm and relaxed inside. Thank you for sharing this special place with us. We ate incredible food, drank great rose, spent our days wondering around, and on Friday we could not get enough of the superb local market. The village is also perfectly located for day trips to surrounding villages or for a drive to the coast for a swim in the sea. Just perfect."

  • Two months in the Luberon

"My wife and I spent two months in this cottage just a few minutes drive from Cucuron and Ansouis. I have to admit that we were a little disappointed when we arrived on a cold day at the end of April because the house had clearly been locked up for the winter and seemed somewhat cheerless at first and a little smaller than we had expected. However, our impressions proved wrong (we were probably suffering from jet lag after a long journey from Australia). Over the next few weeks as spring turned to early summer we grew to love our new home in the Luberon countryside surrounded by vineyards and cherry orchards. The house itself, although quite small and very simple, is ideal for two adult couples or a couple with up to four children. Two of the bedrooms, though simply furnished are comfortable. The third bedroom is quite small and more suitable for children than adults. The sitting room and dining area are reasonably spacious. The kitchen, although small is very well equipped and we ate dinner at home most of the time we were there. There are two bathrooms, one inside with a bath and shower and one outside with a shower. We spent many happy hours on the terrace outside the house and ate there most evenings in June. We loved the large garden and loved picking the fresh cherries, apricots and plums that grew abundantly on the fruit trees. The garden is ideal for children and has a tree house and swings. The swimming pool was a real bonus and we spent many hours round the pool. The pool man came once a week and kept the pool and its surroundings spotless. The house is situated in an excellent location. Most of the Luberon's many picturesque villages (and their markets) are within an hour's drive of the property. Aix en Provence is only half an hour's drive away, Avignon just over an hour and Marseille airport can be reached in 45 minutes. Other historic towns such as St Remy and Arles are only an hour's drive. Ansouis is a very picturesque village three minutes drive or a half hour walk from the house. Cucuron with its famous Étang is a larger but no less interesting village and less than five minutes away. Both villages have excellent Michelin one star restaurants, La Closerie in Ansouis and La Petite mason in Cucuron. There are small supermarkets in both villages and for more comprehensive shopping the Hyper U in Pertuis is only ten minutes drive away. We would certainly rent this house again should we decide to return to the Luberon."

  • Lovely and most relaxing home! Highly recommend...

"Our family travelled to Europe in July-August for 3 weeks stopping for a few days first in Switzerland prior to making the drive to Southern France. Les Arches was all what we expected of a maison in the Luberon area and much more - it was just perfect for us! Photos did not really do justice in showing how fabulous this house is and its surroundings! The house is gorgeous - it is not surprised that it was featured in the Architectural Digest. Our kids enjoyed the pool and the view is just absolutely beautiful overlooking a hill and a cooperative vineyard (I think)- we ate every night in the outdoor dining area and watch the golden sunset and swallows fly by. The bedrooms are a good size, beds very comfortable, with a nice laundry area off the master bedroom. We love the little French kitchen and the formal dining area, and the interior of the house and its furnishings. Our kids enjoyed watching the village cats from their window. We used Les Arches as our base camp to travel around Provence - scenic drive to Nice, Marseilles, Arles, Avignon, Cannes, and Valensole and other nearby towns for the lavender and sunflower fields. Ansouis is a small, quaint and quiet village and it was really what we wanted and it was perfect for us - locals are friendly and I think knowing a little French or making an effort to speak French is appreciated (though spoke with an American accent). There is a small patisserie with excellent baguettes, petit fours and coffee! We often get up early to the sounds of the local church bells and walk up to the patisserie. Karen and Hans, the caretakers, are very warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the area so, ask them about shopping (Lourmarin is my favorite but get there really early!), restaurants, vineyard, etc...There is so much to see! Thank you Karen and Hans! Curcuron, the setting of the movie "A good year" is close by and has a great market and restaurant. Denise, the owner, is very accommodating and responsive to our questions. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with our family! It was a perfect get away for all of us and would want to return soon. Just a tip in renting a car - get a small one to easily navigate the narrow streets."
