  • A unique gem

"There are so many excellent attributes to Baba Yorgo's, it is impossible to describe them all. But at least let me share some highlights that demonstrate our enthusiasm. We travelled for 2 months in Bulgaria and Greece so a village home in a rural setting provided an excellent change from hotels, pensions and guest houses; self catering and solitude. The house and garden are beautiful and well maintained; we regret not allocating several days just to simply sit and enjoy the ambience of this place more than we did. We not only self catered but also went to the local taverna (Petrino, there is only one) and became immersed in village night life and the hospitality of Christo and Marina without a common language to explain the many laughs we all shared as we communicated through gestures. Access to the glories of the Mani, spectacular drives, beaches, stunning coastlines, perpendicular mountain roads, caves with attitude, the magic of Mystra, interesting towns, fascinating history and ancient folklore; all within an day trip or two or three. The rural setting means lovely views from the terrace, tinkling of sheep and goat bells, birds twittering and absence of artificial noise; drink in the serenity! Cleverly priced so that a stay here is affordable based on the number of residents not floor space; we appreciated that a mature couple like us could enjoy Baba Yorgo's in a different way to a family or a group of friends without any premium. Adoni and his cousin Maria have this one nailed for friendly, professional, responsive and well managed accommodation."

The silver-green olive groves of Fokida are a picturesque sight leading to the local capital of Amiffa with its castle. Near here are the world-famous ruins of the oracle of Apollo at Delphi, set into the side of Mt. Parnassos. In fact, the forests are scattered with village after village, each charmingly unique, with ancient stone houses, olive groves, and orchards of apples, pear and cherry trees.
