"Kastro is perhaps the most picturesque village in Sifnos, hugging a hilltop that crashes into the sea, and the stunning church of The Seven Martyrs will leave a lasting impression, as it seems to float on the clear waters that almost encircle the village.
This property is in the heart of historic Kastro, with three fantastic tavernas only minutes away, offering simple but perfect mediterranean cuisine beneath star lit skies. The property, perhaps 500 years or more old, has been sensitively restored, offering all you might need without over doing it. The staircases are steep, and are the original ones, retaining the integrity of this ancient property.
To be specific, the ground floor has a nice kitchen - where we made bread - a bathroom with small bath and shower, and a living area with the front door to the street. There is a mezzanine floor above, with a gallery overlooking the living area. A further stair takes you to the bedroom above, a large room with small balcony overlooking the village and from where you can see the sea.
For those requiring access to phone networks, there are places in the village where you can access wifi and mobile signals. Mobile signals are a bit patchy across the whole island, a clear benefit for those wishing to escape the pressures of city life!
The last points to mention - there is a simple bay below the village where you can swim. The beach is nice, although stony. Neville, the owner, is very communicative and helpful, as is Maria, who looks after the property, keeping it perfectly clean.
So - to sum up. Kastro is perfect, we liked the property very much, and we liked the taverna Astro best - Maria, the owner, is so charming.
We would choose this property again."
