  • Walkability Reigns!

"I returned just this week from a stay in this condo in Barcelona's Gothic area. Staying only three nights as I was travelling with a fellow teacher for a school trip, this condo suited all of our needs! With two bedrooms, we had private space and yet will still had common areas to plan and talk. The condo is updated and while we chose not to cook in the space, it would have been quite easy to do so. There were TWO things, however, that made this condo the perfect choice for us! First....the condo is suitable in the Gothic area - within walkable distance of many restaurants, shopping and many area attractions. We walked to the Plaza Catalunya on a daily basis and even walked to the Mediterranean Sea! So, if you are looking for a centrally located place to stay, this is it. The second highlight was the service we obtained upon arrival. The owners sent Esther to meet us and she was an invaluable resource helping us know how to use the condo and then sitting with us for about an hour explaining the city, the best sites to see, some suggested restaurants, etc. After this conversation, we felt prepared to go for it. Esther even offered several suggestions on how to get to the airport on departure day, including a known taxi driver or the Aerobus (which we selected and highly recommend!) She was upbeat, loves her city and was willing to share! Finally, Esther even helped us get our luggage up to the condo. We felt very safe, even though this condo is just off the main road. The door has double locks. I would choose this condo again if I am ever in Barcelona. Suggestion: If you book, ask for detailed instructions on how to find the condo. The name of the street does not appear on the maps, so while it is not "hidden," you can't just Google the address to find it."

Greece Travel Tips

Best Time of Year to Travel to Greece Vacation Rentals

Greece enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with little regional variation. Summers are typically hot and dry, and rain occurs mostly in the cooler winter months. For at least seven months of the year, Greece enjoys a warm climate. The most pleasant months are generally May to June and September to October. July and August can get particularly hot, and you will find that most locals make use of a midday siesta to avoid the extreme heat. Many shops and restaurants close between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. which can be inconvenient if you are not aware of this. If you want to enjoy the warm climate and beaches, summertime is definitely the best time to visit Greece. If you have more of an interest in Greek culture and history then you may enjoy traveling in the off-peak season. Many of the major sites are found in and around the capital Athens which can get very crowded during the busy tourist season. It’s often more pleasant to travel around in slightly cooler weather and you can linger longer at the sites and attractions that interest you.

To get to Greece, there are number of different transport options. For travelers from North America or northern Europe, it will be most convenient to fly into Athens and from there connect on to your domestic destination. The Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport is located in Sparta which is just outside of Athens. The airport is the country’s busiest and hosts several international airlines. There are regular daily scheduled flights between Athens and most European cities. Travelers from North America and other parts of the world may need to route via London, Amsterdam or Madrid and then connect to Athens. For visitors from the eastern parts of Europe, there are good rail connections with Thessaloniki which is Greece’s main rail hub. During the summer months, there are frequent ferry connections between Greece and its neighboring countries. Many cruise ships also visit the Greek isles and this is a great way to explore the Mediterranean coast.

If you plan to spend some time in and around Athens, you can enjoy the many ancient sites the city has to offer. It was turned into a residential area in the 19th century. Although today it is mostly ruins, there are still several interesting sites worth visiting. Delphi is located approximately 100 miles northwest of Athens. It was once considered to be cultural heart of Greece and is linked to several well-known Greek legends.
