The Budapest Ferihegy Airport is the country’s primary international airport located just outside the capital, through which all international flights route. The airport has two main terminals and most international flights will arrive and depart from terminal 2A. Terminal 1 and 2B is generally used by private aircraft and low-cost European airlines. If you cannot find a direct flight into Budapest, you may consider routing via London or Frankfurt to take advantage of some of the deals on offer. The Debrecen International Airport serves as a secondary airport.

If you are already traveling within Europe, one of the easiest ways to Hungary is by rail. There are extensive rail links within Hungary and with most major cities in Europe. For those traveling by road, you can either make use of the extensive bus transportation system or hire a car. The Danube River connects Budapest with Vienna as well as many well-known resort areas in northern Hungary. Cruising down the Danube is a superb way to see Hungary’s landscapes.

Seasons to Visit Hungary

Like most other parts of central Europe, Hungary is a summer vacation destination. It has a temperate continental climate. The winter months are from November through March with January traditionally being the coldest month. Temperatures often get below freezing and snowfalls occur occasionally. The summer months are mild with average daily temperatures in the mid-20s Centigrade. July and August are generally the warmest months of the year. These are also traditionally the months that are the peak tourist season for visitors. If you want to avoid the crowds, you may consider traveling in May, June or September when the weather is still mild but the major tourist areas won’t be quite as busy.
