  • Great house. Great location. Great welcome.

"My family had a great week staying at Hofdatun, with Thorey giving a very warm welcome from the start. The house is great, with lots of space, very comfortable, and in a good location for seeing the Golden Circle and South coast at a pleasant pace. Also a great location if you want to see the Northern Lights. We saw them 3 nights out of 7. We would definitely stay there again if we're fortunate enough to be able to visit Iceland again."

  • Excellent Location, Lovely Apartment

"I just recently returned from a 6 night stay with 5 friends. The apartment is the perfect size for a group of 5 to 6 adults. We were much more comfortable than we would have been staying in a hotel because the apartment had everything we needed including a washing machine. Location wise, you couldn't ask for more....it's within walking distance to 2 of the best restaurants in the city not to mention all of the local bars and shops. Yes, it is noisy on Thursday night - Saturday night but so is any downtown area. The locals party hard. Burkni was extremely accommodating and let our group not only check in early after a long flight but he also let us check out late. He also gave us some great tips about local places to eat and drink and also clued us in to a site for tracking the Aurora Borealis. If I'm lucky enough to visit Iceland twice I would definitely stay here again."

  • Home from home

"This is a fantastic large house that you can make yourself at home in. We, a party of 8, mixed party of ages 50+, to 20+ and a teenager,we visited in March 2015. It was the perfect base to see all the sites. Most of which were in a 1 to 2 hour drive from the house, and Reykjavik was about 20 mins away. We prefer the freedom of self drive and hired a 9 seater 4WD (4WD is a must in the winter months) with sat nav and found our way around with no problem. If you are not happy to self drive, you can take organised excursions and can be picked up from the house, there is a good bus service although we never used it. There is a very good supermarket in walking distance, along with a few other shops, fishmonger, off licence, bakery, kebab grill and Dominoes pizza that will deliver. The weather was quite atrocious on one day during our visit and we were warned to stay in doors by the owners as the winds were approx 70MPH along with snow and sleet. It was great fun being in the really warm house watching the weather beating down. We opened the bar early and played music and made our own entertainment. Then early afternoon the weather miraculously changed (apparently common for this to happen in Iceland) we wrapped up and went for a walk along the river which runs along the valley at the bottom of the house. Then back home to the hot tub and sauna and a home cooked chilli con carne. The house has everything you need to self cater, the bean to cup built in coffee machine is fab and the owners supply the beans for you. I would definitely recommend this house if you are looking for home from home type accommodation. Do not go here if you want pristine, immaculate, hotel type accommodation. This home(a home it is) is warm, clean and comfortable, with every amenity you could want, and we certainly made ourselves at home."

  • Superb flat in Reykjavik

"We were fortunate to have a week in this beautifully decorated and scrupulously clean apartment. The owner, Soffia, greeted us upon arrival, and patiently explained the details of the apartment, including the well-equipped kitchen. We had stayed at a number of owner-rented apartments over a period of 10 weeks all over Europe; this apartment turned out to be the clear highlight. It is located in a neighborhood convenient to downtown and across from a large park. While it is adjacent to a busy road, the apartment is well-insulated from sound, and traffic noise was never a problem. The apartment is so spacious it was easy for our family of four to spread out when we needed some solitude. Soffia has thoughtfully provided a great deal of information about Reykjavik and Iceland, including brochures and books, and she was happy to meet with us later in the week for coffee and a discussion of all things Iceland. The internet works very well, and there is a cd player and a radio. No tv, but we didn't miss it. Beds are comfortable, with good sheets and duvets. Many, many towels, and a washing machine in the basement. We had a wonderful experience in Iceland, and this apartment contributed mightily. It was a joy to return to it after the days' outings. I recommend it without qualification to anyone looking for a splendid base in this fantastic country!"
