"Sean and Louise will make you feel like family on your stay. The property is amazing, a beautiful house with a great outdoor seating and leisure area. For the morning walkers, a great road to the lake is a little under a mile walk. Very quit, but only 1/4 mile off the highway. We were on a 10 day holiday and got lucky enough to stay here our last 3 days. Property is close enough for a day trip into Dublin, Galway City or Limerick. If that's not on your agenda, just head to Scariff, go to the meat market and grab some meat to grill on the back porch and enjoy the gorgeous back yard. (Lamb kabobs are a must).
Mountshannon is on Lake Derg, which has the Holy Island to visit. We also did some checking and you can rent a boat to sight see the lake. I was told by locals that the Derg is the second biggest lake in the country.
I have stayed at many VBRO properties and this one is a A++++++++++ in my book.
Thank you Sean and Louise for the stay!!!"

"We spent a week at the O'Callaghan's Gentian Cottage in Doolin this July and it was perfect. We come to Ireland every summer and usually rent a cottage for part of our stay. Both the Gentian Cottage and its location made this summer’s stay the absolute best. We picked it because it was close to Doolin (Irish music !!) and very near to Lahinch (our favorite course in Ireland).
The kitchen is a very easy space to work in, fully equipped and with a table to enjoy meals at, the adjacent sunroom was nice for reading and enjoying the spectacular views. At night we often ate in and built a peat fire in the sitting area. All three bedrooms had great beds, and private bathrooms, plus an additional bathroom on the first floor.
Ann O'Callaghan was a wonderful hostess with a great personality, she even provided breakfast supplies as we arrived (eggs, milk, butter, soda bread, and orange juice). Do not miss her offer to provide a private tour of Ballinalacken Castle which is close to the cottage and dates to the 14th century.
This stay was perfect and I can’t recommend Gentian Cottage any more highly !!"

"We were unable to stay at Ballyportry Castle as it was already booked, but the owner was so helpful, kind and prompt in her replies that I wanted to give the castle a positive review for customer service. I'm sure the owner gives the same amount of care to her castle as she does her customers, which would make it a truly wonderful place to stay!"

"If this listing looks too good to be true, I can say it's even better. The view is stunning in every direction. The house is comfortable and clean and esy to keep that way. The living and sleeping spaces are separate enough to accomodate night owls and early risers. The location feels remote and isolated ( the road is closed to cars just passed the cottage and becomes a green road) but a short drive will take you where you want to be. If you're ready to let Ireland take you, right down to the bones, it can happen here.
