Overview of County Antrim Vacation Rentals
Traveling to Antrim Vacation Rentals
Belfast is the major city in County Antrim and Airuk is Belfast’s international airport. Regularly scheduled flights operate between Dublin, London and other major European cities. If traveling from North America, you may need to route via one of these alternate hubs before arriving in Belfast. An efficient taxi service provides transport from the airport into the city as well as the surrounding area. There is also a regular bus and rail service that links the various towns throughout the county. Information regarding train times can be obtained from the local station. This is an affordable way to get around but if you are staying in a remote cottage then it may be a better option to get a taxi. Otherwise, you may find yourself walking several miles with your luggage.
Things to See and Do near Your Antrim Accommodation
Antrim has rich cultural and historical heritage, and there is no shortage of things to see and do. Choose from ancient castles, museums, historic landmarks, ruins and beautiful natural attractions. Belfast Castle is a beautifully restored landmark that has a cultural heritage center, a fully functional restaurant, and an antique and craft shop among its attractions. The cellar has been transformed to depict a Victorian street scene, complete with cobbled streets and gas street lamps.
The Giants Causeway has an information center which shares the history surrounding this natural landmark. An audiovisual program and exhibition center provide additional insight. Lough Neah is the largest lake in the British Isles. It is a popular trout fishing spot. Just to the west of the Loch in the hills, you can see the Beaghmore Stone Circles which are believed to have powers of fertility. The land was inhabited by Celts, Vikings, Scots, Normans and English through the ages and each has left traces of their heritage on the land.
The Old Bushmills Distillery is reputed to be the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery. For more than 400 years, the distillery has been producing some of the finest Irish malt whiskeys. You can tour the facilities and perhaps learn of some of the trade secrets that make the whiskey produced here so excellent.
There are many museums that have interesting exhibits showcasing Ireland's history and culture. If you have a specific interest, it's a good idea to get a good guide book and read up on the places to see before arriving in Antrim.
Seasons to Visit Antrim Cottages
Most visitors avoid Ireland’s icy winter and prefer to tour the country during the warmer summer months of May to September. Rain occurs throughout the year and summertime is no exception. Make sure that you have adequate rainwear when heading out on your explorations. The peak travel season occurs during the months of July and August. If you’d prefer to avoid the crowds, a better option would be to tour earlier in June.
Affordable Ireland Vacation Rentals in County Antrim
Staying in a vacation home as opposed to a hotel has many benefits. The first is that you can generally benefit from a higher standard of accommodation at a far more affordable rate. Because many of the vacation homes are managed and maintained by their owners, you can be assured of a high standard of quality. The homes are comfortably furnished and tend to be well equipped in terms of modern conveniences, even if you are staying in a country environment. Another benefit is that you get a more authentic experience of your travel destination. Most times, you get to meet your neighbors and when shopping at the local grocer, you may even get to hear some of the town gossip. You have the convenience of coming and going as you please and can enjoy a spacious home environment in which to relax each evening.
