  • Excellent home with accessible, central location

"I have been renting through VRBO for five years, averaging six stays per year. Of all my experiences, this home in reality was the closest to its description. It's exactly as it appears in the pictures and has a lot of high end touches you rarely see in Ireland. It has radiant, in-floor heating and most of the rooms have individual controls. The main setting which controls the kitchen, dining & living room is housed in a locked box on the outside of the home - so this needs to be changed by the caretaker, Mary. All of the other rooms have their own controls, so you choose your comfort. The kitchen appliances are all high end and have the manuals in a binder to assist you. I would like to note the home is accessible - it has a ramp at the entrance, two bedrooms, two baths (with roll-in showers), the kitchen & dining room all on the same floor. The rooms are gigantic and the hallways & doorways are wide. The living room (TV & fireplace), sun room and the master suite are located up three stone stairs, however. The house is also suited for families with young children - it has several board games, a toy house, blocks, etc. The stove has child lock measures for safety too. The house is also suited for groups or families with teens as the master bedroom is on the complete opposite side of the house as the two other bedrooms. And every bedroom has it's own en suite bath, so privacy is amazing. The only FYI's that should be noted are: 1) You are in Ireland on a wooded lot, so expect to see a few spiders/bugs (especially in the fall or winter as Ireland is notorious for its spiders during these seasons). 2) The microwave's timer does not work - you set it for a specific time, but it doesn't count down, it just keeps running. So don't set it and then walk away expecting the *ding.* 3) The shower temperatures are a little touchy. If you find the water isn't hot enough, I recommend shutting it off, turning the temperature knob to a hotter setting & then turn it back on. For some reason it wouldn't get hotter once it was on. 4) It is a self-catering house, and when I was there it didn't have some things you would think may be there - like black pepper & sugar. Just be prepared to look around the kitchen before you head to the store. 5) The fireplace doesn't emit a lot of heat, I think the chimney is a little too large and the heat escapes up it. So don't invest in a lot of firewood or peat logs unless you just want the ambiance. Overall: Amazing"

  • Like a four leaf clover

"Oh boy did we love this place. The castle, the setting, the lake, the forest…all better than expected. It's the perfect quiet get away. I'll admit that we didn't do much more than eat and check out the local scenery..and eat some more. The kitchen is fully equipped, and that means fully. We've been traveling around Europe for a year and often that means two pots and a pan. There is a great reference book with many of the local attractions and restaurants that was very helpful. I'll add to that list Kai restaurant in Galway (!!!) and a trip to Kylemore Abbey in Connemara. It's to the North and about an 1.5+ drive, but absolutely worth it. Also, Ashford Castle…more to the point, eating at Ashford Castle. The afternoon tea is amazing and the Fish and Chips I might actually swim back for. Our two weeks were amazing. I only wish my family could have been able to make it. The kids would have been in Heaven. It's also 100% Mastiff approved."

  • Great location, safe and quiet

"We arrived in a rainstorm, not unusual for Galway in March, and the welcome we received made us feel so good! Liz gave us a tour of all of the units, and each is very nice. Three of us shared Silver Teal and we were extremely comfortable. Two large bedrooms, large bathrooms and a huge kitchen including a washer and dryer, made the stay especially convenient. (I try to be a light packer, and found it helpful to do laundry mid-week.) The unit is close to everything, and we felt like "locals" after a week. With all of the wonderful restaurants and historic sites in Galway, we were out all day every day wandering around town and enjoying the ambiance. We found a good taxi tour driver through the Irish Tourism office so we were able to take two tours of Cliffs of Moher and Connemara (we did not rent a car). It was great to come home every night to our "home" in Galway. They have units for almost any size group. Thanks again, Liz and the Galway crew!"
