Castlegregory Travel Tips

Places to Explore from Castlegregory Vacation Rentals

Castlegregory takes its name from a castle Gregory Hoare built in the 16th century on the site of the current village and offers a little slice of Irish history to any visitor staying in a Castlegregory accommodation. While the castle itself is long gone, an arched doorway from Gregory Hoare's original castle can still be seen from Tailor's Row in the village. Visitors can also check out the Old Railway, a site where a railroad connecting Tralee to Dingle was in operation from 1891 to 1939. The line is no longer in use, but the area is still renowned for the beautiful countryside. A Kerry house rental can put you right in the heart of this Irish paradise.

Enjoy the Oceans of the Emerald Coast

One activity that defines Castlegregory above all others is surfing. Castlegregory is situated at the base of a long and narrow peninsula that separates Brandon Bay from Tralee Bay and this area is famous for its surf-friendly waters. Surfing has to be on the must-do list of any tourist taking advantage of Castlegregory vacation rentals. Castlegregory draws in surfers from across the world that come to test their skill on the waters. In fact, it was the site of the world surfing championships in 2000.

Dine like the Irish

If you reserve any Castlegregory vacation rentals for your vacation, don't pass on going to an authentic Irish Pub. Ned Natterjacks, one such pub, offers an old-world Irish flavor with traditional Irish music played seven nights a week during the summer months. Visitors to Ned Natterjacks can also enjoy a menu featuring fresh seafood or sample a local Irish brew in the beer garden. Spillanes is another pub worth checking out. You usually need a reservation, but can go enjoy daily specials that include at least one meat dish and two fish dishes.
