  • Historic Aghaboe House

"My first memory of my first trip to Ireland will always be that of Aghaboe. My partner and I arrived at Dublin airport, exhausted and harried, and drove straightaway to this manor house in the country. It's a good thing we did: The caretaker cheerfully made us tea and showed us through this welcoming old stone house. The pleasures were many: luxuriating in a deep soaking tub, sipping lovely Spanish wines from their wine cellar, meandering through the nooks and crannies of the house, and exploring the impressive library. At night Orion shone brilliantly in the velvet sky and in the mornings a step outside revealed a forgotten era. Here you can still breathe sweet soft air and gaze across the ridiculously green grass with cattle grazing to an ancient crumbling abbey. From here we visited the surrounding countryside and nearby Kilkenny, but returning to the huge old house and its lovely grounds was most restorative. Though we went on to find my own ancestral land and many more touristed sites, this place remains special--authentic and unforgettable."

  • You couldn't find a more beautiful place or vista!

"Other reviewers have commented that the pictures on the site don't do this home justice and they were right. This is an absolutely stunning house with beautiful and quality attention to detail in the architecture and decor--every room is beautifully appointed. There is lots of room for a family or group to enjoy themselves, have space to spread out or all be together. And all amenities are taken care of so it really is worry free. The views from the main room out to the sheep pastures and bay are wonderfully pastoral and you can feel yourself relax just gazing out at the scenery. The kitchen is a dream in which to prepare a meal or enjoy a glass (or two) of wine or Guinness and our group may have set a new record judging by the empty bottles! What is better than sitting in a window seat looking out on the magnificent scenery or turning your gaze to the beautiful great room that incorporates a living area, dining area and fabulous kitchen--the views are wonderful no matter where you look. The owner and family are wonderfully attentive to every need and in ensuring that your stay is not only enjoyable, but top notch. We enjoyed the surrounding area...by foot or by car...there is so much to discover and enjoy in this area of Ireland. We can't say enough about this property...and hope others get to share in the experience."

  • Heaven

"I always try to write reviews, but I knew this one would be hard to write since how many ways can you say the same thing as the many positive reviews already posted. In Ireland you never know what you will get for weather but we arrived on a day when the sun was shining bright and very little wind. Three of us got out of the car and literally gasped at the beauty in front of us. We entered the House and windows were in all the right places in the Living Room, and the Master Bedroom (if possible) had even a more spectacular view, Everything you could want or need is in the House . Then the bonus we got to meet Philomena who with her husband built the house and a new smaller one right next to it. As they are prone to say in Ireland , Philomena is a lovely woman. It was so much fun talking to her and the next day we met one of her daughters (Sharon) who had us smiling with stories of some of the Bus Drivers in Ireland. This is a place that if you want to rest your head on a pillow knowing that when you wake up one of the most spectacular views in the world will greet you, then just send in your deposit. I have been lucky enough to travel through most of the World. There are only a few places in the world that can match Ireland for overall beauty and even a smaller number of locations that the average person can afford and be given such a fabulous location and home to make their own for a few days or weeks (if lucky) Then you get the Bonus of the Irish people who I find among the friendliest and helpful people in the world. There is so much more I could write about the beauty of the Dingle Peninsula but I will leave that to the Guide Books. If you want something special, plan your trip to rent the Stone House. I promise you will not be sorry!!"

  • Clean and Roomy- Great base for a larger group to see Dublin and Ireland

"We needed room for 6 adults for our recent trip. City Center apts/houses of this were very expensive, so we were pleased to find this. Plenty of room to spread out, prepare for and talk about our day. Kitchen is well appointed and had everything we needed. Plenty of towels and many beds were great. It would've been nice to be in City Center, but the 130 bus is only a few blocks away and its a quick trip to town. Then you can either walk everywhere from there or make a connection to another bus or Luas (Trolley). We rented a van for the week and were able to park off street. It is about 15 minutes to the airport. So, though we had rented here for the week, the cost was so reasonable, we used it as our base, left most of our things, and headed to the west coast for a few days in the van. Nolan's is a very nice grocer just 0.7 mile away. On that same street is a pharmacy, a wine/spirits store (though Nolan's has wine and beer), Hemingway's an excellent seafood restaurant (they sell wine, no beer or spirits), a fish and chip shop, several Italian restaurants and Connolly's Pub (aka the Sheds). Clontarf Castle hotel is a block away. We had a great meal at The Bay, just a little east, on Clontarf Road. We were greeted by the next door neighbor and provided the keys. We were also in contact with several of the owners family, to help with anything we needed. All were wonderful and helpful. We were there to celebrate my birthday, and they had decorated the home with balloons and banners. A nice touch and greatly appreciated. Had it not rained virtually the entire time we were there, we probably would have used the beautiful private garden/backyard/porch. The entire back of the house is wonderfully light, even on a rainy day, due to the large glass roofing section over one of the sitting areas. If we had any complaints or recommendations, there were a few lights out and the tip of the coffee pot spout was chipped. We reported it on departure and I am sure it was resolved. The other would be to put together a booklet on how everything works, where to pick up the bus, local restaurants and their menus, local shops, recommendations, etc. We have had that at all our other rentals and find it helpful. We could have called her relatives, but we hate to bother others and would rather just have self service access to info. All in all, a wonderful place to call home for a week!"
