  • Beyond our expectations

"It was the first visit to Ireland for my partner and my first as a tourist (not family). We could not have been happier with our choice of Old Parochial House for location, great accommodation, and most of all Alyson and Sean our wonderful hosts. They took the time to make us feel welcome and at home and we enjoyed several chats with advice on places to visit and history of Ireland. Our balcony looked out over the fields of a neighboring farm, which thrilled David who had grown up on a farm here in Canada, and every evening we were able to enjoy a glass of wine and bathe in the peace and tranquility before dinner. Thank you both for making our week in Co. Clare a memory to treasure. We would both highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to spend some time on the west coast and enjoys country living. We found it easy to make day trips to Connemara, Dingle, Cork, Limerick, Ennis, Burren etc. The quiet really was deafening!"

  • It's more than a grand cottage--it's home!

"This was our second visit to Cooga Cottage. Our first visit was two years ago with our 18 year old granddaughter. We had such a lovely time and couldn't wait to return. This visit was with two grandsons, ages 17 and 22. Again, a terrific time was had by all of us. I enjoyed looking out the kitchen window to the beautiful flowers in the garden. The guys tried teaching themselves hurling on the huge lawn. They also kicked a soccer ball around. (Tom was so kind to leave a soccer ball out for them to use. It was the first thing they did after bringing in their suitcases.) It would have been lovely to eat in the garden at the table/chairs provided, but we were always on the go. (Ah, next time.) The cottage is very conveniently located to so many places. I did cook breakfast almost every day in the beautifully equiped kitchen. There is everything a cook would want--including an apron! It was great keeping our laundry done up--no need to pack so much when you know you have a washer & dryer in the cottage. Actually, the entire cottage is equipped with everything needed--hair dryers, maps, shampoo, Q-tips, soaps bath/laundry/dish, coffee, tea, and spices. Tom even left a container of milk and chocolates for us. He is so thoughtful. I can't say enough good things about this gem of a cottage and its owner, Tom. As I told him when I booked the cottage this year, "I feel like I'm coming home." It's on my bucket list to take our other six grandchildren to Cooga Cottage in the future. I was saddened to find the Chinese restaurant in the church next door had closed. Although there are wonderful places to eat nearby, that one had been a special favorite of mine. We met a lovely neighbor and her daughter while we were by the road looking through the folliage for the sliotar (hurling ball). They were so kind as to drop by later with a sliotar for the guys--her son wanted them to have it. The clerk at the store always asked what I had seen/done during the day when I'd stop in for groceries. There are very friendly people in Doon. We walked on the nature trail near the cottage for the first time during this visit. It will definitely be something I do on every visit. I keep a picture of Cooga Cottage on my laptop as a screen saver. Just looking at it whisks me back to Ireland and drops my blood pressure. I highly recommend this cottage!!"

  • Magical ocean views in all directions-breathe the cool, fresh air! You won't believe this place!

"We returned to this magical cottage on the sea 7 years later to find that absolutely nothing had changed in the cottage or county--we were so delighted! I believe our family was one of the first to stay in this brand new cottage then, and the home has been exceptionally maintained. Our family of 5 was so comfortable in this cottage and very happy to again escape south Florida's hot summer. Our 6 month old daughter is now 7 1/2, and we now have 5 and 3 year old daughters, too. The ocean and mountain views and sunsets are like none we have ever experienced--brilliant blue ocean, black rocky coast, sandy Fanore beach with surf school, beautiful rainbows, Burren rocky hills, sultry orange/red/purple sunsets (even more magnificent than Key West's.) The cottage is just above the main road which hardly has any traffic, really. For the first time we were able to show the girls the Milky Way. We had a family of 3 cows and 2 calves across the street, had lots of sheep in the town, ponies and horses. We took plenty of walks down to the pub, grocery store, and restaurant, and hikes up the hills in the cool weather. We visited the Cliffs of Moher Children's Farm (15minute drive), visited a sheep farm in Mayo County (Killary Sheep Farm in the Connemara Mountinains), visited plenty of castles, old cemeteries and church ruins. We were never bored in our 2 week stay. We were happy to find RTE Lyric classical Irish music/classical station still playing. Mary, Gus, and David, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home with us. We will be back sooner this time!"

  • Absolutely Wonderful Home!

"This rental property is an absolute gem in the Dingle peninsula! Its interesting that I had the same "concern" as the previous reviewer that the property almost looked to good to be true from the website but in reality it was absolute perfection and true to the photos and description of the home. This home was a great stepping off point for exploring the Dingle and the south of Ireland. It is a very comfortable and well appointed home and our hosts were very helpful and attentive. The care they take in preparing their home and their guests for their stay was second to none - I was impressed and I am known as someone fairly difficult to please :). I loved everything about this home and its location and it was by far the nicest VRBO rental property we have stayed in. The home is very well equipped and the hosts have thought of everything! I loved the views of the landscape and the ocean and the wonderful breeze that came through the windows - especially when lying comfortably in bed in the morning. Some of our activities included: Killarney National Park, Killarney Falconry (++ amazing activity), exploring Castlegregory, walking the trail at Loch Anascaul, driving the Dingle Peninsula, driving the Connor Pass (my kids favourite), exploring and walking along the local beach collecting shells and looking for seabirds, visiting the multiple ancient and historical sites in the area, and wonderful restaurants (our favourite for the family for Fish & Chips was Quinlan's in Killarney). All of our multi-generational family loved this vacation and this VRBO rental - it truly made our trip to Ireland (which was already fantastic) very special! Thanks to Mel and Frances for your hospitality and kindness. All the best!"
