Getting to Apulia Vacation Rentals

When researching information on Apulia, you may often find the region referred to as Puglia. This is the local name for the region. There are four regional airports within Apulia: Aeroporte di Puglia Spa; Palese Bari; Brindisi Airport; and Foggia Airport. In all likelihood, if you are traveling from North America or northern Europe, you will route your international flight via Rome or Naples. From there, you will be able to get a domestic flight on to Puglia Airport. Alternatively, you can hire a car in Naples and take a scenic drive down to Apulia. There are some train and bus routes around the region but these operate on quite an infrequent schedule. Your best option for getting around is to hire a car and be able to explore the various towns and villages at your own pace.

Attractions and Activities near Apulia Accommodation

The Parco Nationale del Gargano is a great place for hiking and enjoying nature. Walk along the peninsula and enjoy the magnificent sea views. The town of Peschici is a historic cliff-top village in Gargano. Characterized by low-set white houses, the village dates back to 950 A.D. Below Peschici is a beautiful sandy bay. This is a great place to hire a boat and explore a little of the coastline. You will find secluded coves which are perfect for a romantic beach picnic.

A great place to shop for ceramics, antiques and hand-made linen is the beautifully preserved fortress town of Gallipoli. The town has an amazing historical town center. If you’re looking for something fresh for dinner, visit the fish market where you pick up a well priced catch of the day.

In the region of Apulia, you will find a unique form of baroque architecture called barocco leccese. Examples of the intricate and ornate decoration can be seen on various cathedrals and churches around Apulia. Some most notable examples can be seen in the town of Lecce.

There is no shortage of castles and ancient towers in the region. A place of many battles, the region has a rich history of conquests. Some of the former battlements are now merely ruins but they still create beautiful photo opportunities.

Italian Style at Apulia Villas

Many of the rental homes in the Apulia region are spacious villas that can accommodate several couples or a family. Located in elegant rural settings, the homes are comfortably furnished. Eating and drinking is almost done with celebration if it’s Italian style. It’s no wonder then that the kitchen and dining areas are mostly large and well equipped. Some of the vacation homes are located near the oceanfront so you can have easy access to the beaches. The region has a unique architectural style known as Trullos. These are white dome-shaped houses built out of stone and without mortar. For a really authentic stay, you may be able to rent a trullo for the duration of your stay. The thick walls keep the summer heat out and the interiors comfortably cool. Many homes are located among olive or nut groves which provide a tranquil setting.

Best Season to Travel to Apulia

Summertime is by far the most popular time of year to visit Apulia and it runs from May to October. The days are long and the nights are balmy. Dining el fresco under bright Mediterranean skies is the norm. In July and August, the daytime temperatures can get quite hot and a cooling sea breeze is always welcome. Winters are mild and the perfect season for hiking or biking around the area. If you visit during the autumn, you may have an opportunity to join in the olive harvests.
