  • THE place to stay in Orvieto!

"We greatly enjoyed our stay at Casa Flavia! The location was perfect: just off of the main street with its shops and restaurants. The apartment was comfortable and had everything that we needed to feel at home. The patio off of the bedroom was lovely but the December weather didn't make it possible to spend time on it. Best of all was the warm welcome and help that we received from Roberta, our hostess. Because the walled city made it challenging for driving and parking, she escorted us to and from a safe area in which to keep our car. The time that we spent conversing with her made us feel that we'd made a new friend! Orvieto and the region of Umbria are beautiful. Be sure to drive to nearby Civita di Bagnoregio."

  • Perfect Apartment in the Perfect Location

"Our family (4 adults and 2 children) had an absolutely wonderful time in Florence in large part due to our experience with this home. It is beautiful and perfectly located in the Oltrarno quarter of Florence. Good restaurant options abound and a quaint gelato shop is only a few doors away. The staff made it easy to rent, check-in/out, and booked our taxi reservations for the return to the airport. Everything a tourist would want to see in Florence is just a short walk away. We highly recommend this apartment and will look to book here again on our next trip to Florence."

Calabria Travel Tips

Stay at Calabria Vacation Rentals

Calabria is a region is the southernmost part of Italy, made up of five provinces. It is bordered by the Ionian Sea to the southeast and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west. The coastline is spectacularly beautiful and characterized by high cliffs, ancient castle ruins and a number of beautiful beaches.

Culture Enthusiasts Will Appreciate Calabria's Charms

Separating Calabria from the central part of Italy are the towering peaks of the Pollino Mountains. Although Calabria has a relatively long coastline and some nice beaches, the area is mostly mountainous. Because its tourism industry has only really been developed in the last few decades, the region is unspoiled by large developments. As a result, visitors to Calabria vacation rentals can enjoy some of Italy's old-fashioned charm. The region is much less developed than central and northern Italy and has retained much of its rich cultural heritage.

Experience the Italian Lifestyle

Many of Calabria accommodations are tucked away in historic village centers. The ancient and narrow streets overflow with sounds and fragrant smells from the local bakery, grocer and street corner café. Experience a taste of authentic Italian lifestyle as you explore the seaside villages, sip a cappuccino or espresso, and visit the historic ruins of the region. Visitors interested in architecture and culture can follow the cobbled streets, stop in at museums, archeological digs and castles, and enjoy the magnificent sea views from the cliff tops.

Things to see and do Near Calabria Villas

The town of Stilo is known for its beautiful architecture. Its two most famous landmarks are the Cattolica which is a magnificent Byzantine church and the Norman castle. The town is also the home of Tomaso Campanella.

Calabria's oldest and largest city is located on the narrow strait between Italy's mainland and Sicily. Reggio Calabria's 3,000-year-old history is reflected in the many art nouveaux buildings, beautiful botanical gardens and historic places of interest. The National Museum of Magna Greca houses the famous Riace Bronzes. These tall Greek bronze statues date back to 460 to 430 BC.

On the Tyrrhenian Sea coastline is the town of Tropea which is most well known for producing sweet red onions. It is also home to the Santa Maria dell'Isola sanctuary. This magnificent ancient building is set high up on the cliff, overlooking two beautiful beaches which are accessible only by a long and winding staircase.

To view both the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, you must visit the area of Catanzaro which is located in the middle of Italy's narrowest point. Walk along the promenade on the Ionian coastline or visit the archeological park where ancient civilizations are studied. There is also the impressive Viaduct Morandi-Bisantic, a massive one-arched bridge. Nearby are the ruins of the Le Castella, a castle shrouded in mystery and legend. Believed to once have been a love nest to a Greek goddess, it was occupied through the ages by both the Greeks and the Arabs.

If you enjoy hiking then visit the Pollino National Park, the La Scilia and Aspromonte mountain regions. The tall peaks are covered with dense pine forests and dotted with the occasional lake. In general, only the lower slopes have been cultivated and the upper slopes are covered by natural vegetation. Be sure to take your camera along to photograph the impressive landscapes.

Getting to Calabria Lodging

Calabria is served by two national highways that run along the coastline. On the inland route, the A3 motorway links Reggio di Calabria with Salemo. The main roads are generally busy with the traffic, only calming as you get into the smaller seaside villages. There are two main airports providing access into Calabria. One is located in Reggio di Calabria and the other in Lamezia Terme.
