Overview of Campania Vacation Rentals
Come to Campania for a Real Italian Experience
If you are planning a vacation to Italy, you should definitely consider Campania. Campania, Italy is known for its beautiful landscapes, pleasant year-round spring-like climate, rich textures and colors, and so much more. Time spent in Campania, Italy villas allow you the opportunity to enjoy nature, art and culture, archaeology, and authentic Italian cuisine. It has been a prime destination for centuries, starting with the ancient Romans who loved this region immensely. Once you arrive, you will know exactly why.
The Culture is Inescapable
The history of Campania reaches far back to the 9th century B.C. with the founding of Partenope. During the age of the Roman Empire, the rich would visit the region to enjoy its thermal spas. Traces of these spas remain today, despite the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. which devastated the ancient towns of Herculaneum and Pompeii. Centuries later, we still learn from archaeological digs uncovering monuments, temples, and everyday homes. These ancient towns are open for tours and learning experiences alike. To get a real taste of the art and culture of Campania, you absolutely must visit Naples. It is a lively, friendly city full of theater, museums, and monuments. The adorable pen-air cafes and plenty of shopping don't hurt either!
The Food and Drink
Booking Campania, Italy accommodations simply means that you will not only have a wonderful vacation but a gastronomical adventure. Thinking of the food of Campania, you cannot avoid the thought of pizza. Around the 19th century, a Neapolitan cook invented the dish which would later become a worldwide favorite. You can only get “real” pizza right in Campania so do not delay! The pizza is indescribably good, consisting of San Marzano tomatoes and fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese. Of course, aside from the pizza, the seafood is to die for with fresh mussels from along the coast. And do not forget the locally made Limoncello di Sorrento, a lemon-based liqueur, delicious on its own or with dessert.
Arriving in Campania, Italy
Unfortunately, there are no direct flights into Campania, Italy but there are more than enough inbound flights to the surrounding areas. The Almalfi Coast Airport, also known as the Salerno Airport, is about an hour and a half away by car. Naples International Airport, about an hour and 45 minutes, is another option, with the most direct inbound flights from major hub airports including JFK, Dublin, and London Heathrow. Arriving by train is another possibility but the rail can be quite slow. If you do decide to take the train, your best bet is to arrive in Naples or Salerno then transfer to a bus that goes into town.
Getting Around Campania
Do not worry. If you are nervous about driving in another country, you do not have to during your stay in Campania, Italy vacation rentals! The public transportation system offers a unified ticket system known as Campania Unico. This means that tickets are categorized into zones and with just one ticket, you can travel within one or more zones. There is a maximum time limit for the ticket and the zones radiate out from Napoli which means travel is made easy. The system includes buses and national trains but not ferries. Just be sure to ask the agent when purchasing your tickets if you have any questions.
Things to see and Do
Because of the rich cultural history and beautiful setting, Campania has plenty to offer. While staying right in town is just fine and will fill your days with the local markets and eateries, day trips are a perfect way to explore the area. For one, the Statue of Liberty in Central Naples is a must-see! Another big lure of the Campania region is the ocean. The Amalfi coast is like no other, peppered with mountainside towns that seemingly tumble into the sea. Spend the day visiting Ischia, Capri or even Procida as well.
Do not Miss the History
Italy is filled with ancient cities, especially the areas surrounding Campania. One in particular, Calitri, should be at the top of your list. Located in the center of Italy, it lies between the ruins of Pompeii and the Amalfi coast. On your way to the ancient village, you will see aristocratic palazzos, castles, and historical sites.
