  • Nice apartment; well situated.

"We found this apartment after our booked-for-three-months accommodation canceled on us at the last minute! We found it is as-advertised, spacious and clean. The location is good--within easy walking distance of every major sight in Florence as well as the train station. The neighborhood is quieter than you would find on the other side of the river. We were satisfied with the apartment, especially in respect to the cost. Kevan was easy to work with and very accommodating. To be fair to others, I must back other reviews with regard to the street noise in the master bedroom. If you are not a city dweller or a very heavy sleeper, you will find that it is impossible to sleep without earplugs. Even on the weeknights, you can expect to have a lot of noise until 1-2 am, and the first night we arrived (Saturday) it was even later. The good news is that the second bedroom is much quieter--I can't use earplugs, but I was able to sleep by moving to the other bedroom (there were only two of us, so this was practical). This may simply be an artifact of the historic nature of the building and of city life in general, so just be prepared for this--forewarned is forearmed! The neighbors are pretty heavy smokers, so you may not be able to open the windows opening onto the courtyards, but the air conditioning does work, and there are a couple of fans to help circulate the air, so this works well. One recommendation I do have is to provide a small welcome basket upon arrival. A bottle of water, perhaps some coffee, fruit, biscuits and/or some milk would have been much appreciated. There is a market nearby, so we were able to run down to the market before it closed."

Emilia Romagna Travel Tips

Enjoy a Vacation in Northern Italy at Emilia Romagna Vacation Rentals

The region of Emilia Romagna in Northern Italy is known for its historic cities, beautiful countryside and exceptional gastonomy. The art cities of Modena and Parma draw thousands of visitors to enjoy their incredible frescoes and artworks created for the Renaissance Dukes of Ferrara.

The capital of Emilia Romagna is Bologna which has wonderful architecture and is an ideal base for reaching Venice, Florence, Milan and Tuscany. This ancient land is also known for its scenic beauty, lying on the slopes of the Apennines. It is a bountiful farming district and produces some excellent meats, cheese and wines to complement the divine pasta dishes served in the local trattoria.

Given the choice between staying in a modern hotel, which could be anywhere in the world, or renting a vacation rental, most couples and families choose rental accommodation. Staying in a historic cottage, townhouse or converted farm building adds a real sense of history and authenticity to your stay. Vacation rentals always offer plenty of space to spread out and give each family member privacy and space to do their own thing if they want to. Fully equipped kitchens make preparing family meals a pleasure, especially after a trip to a local market.

Many vacation rentals in Emilia Romagna have views of rolling hills, nearby towns and acres of vineyards. A well-located vacation villa is an integral part of the pleasure of staying in Emilia Romagna.

Things to do Around Your Emilia Romagna Accommodation

Exploring the local area and the historic cities is what most visitors choose to do, along with sampling the local delicious food and wine. However, the area is also ideal for touring by car or on foot. Hiking in the scenic hills is the best way to enjoy the fresh air and historic villages. Cycling is a popular sport in Italy and bikes can easily be hired for getting around. There are several golf courses offering everything from clubs to a restaurant. The best known golf club in Emilia Romagna is Golf Club Bologna.

The area has many festivals throughout the year, and carnivals with floats, dancing and fireworks are enjoyed at the slightest excuse. Saints Days, holidays and obscure legends, kitemakers festivals, and art and music festivals can all be enjoyed by visitors.

Getting to the Region of Emilia Romagna

There are regular flights from all over the world to Bologna International Airport, also known as Guglielmo Marconi Airport, after the famous radio-inventor who lived in Bologna. It is linked by a shuttle bus to Bologna city center which is just 6 km (3 miles) away. For those who want to explore the area independently, cars can easily be hired from the airport.

Places to Visit From Emilia Romagna Villas

Faenza is a well known ceramics-producing town southeast of Bologna. Further north is Modena with its Romanesque cathedral. Milan is the place to discover the latest fashions in designer clothing, either from the pricey boutiques or on the markets where imitations look just as chic.

Parma was the stronghold of the Farnese family in the 16th century and has a rich legacy of art and architecture. The Cathedral and Baptistery are well worth seeing. Ravenna should not be missed. Lying on the Adriatic coast, it has a pleasant beach but most visitors are attracted to the town for its stunning mosaics which date back to Roman times.

The Local Weather in Emilia Romagna

Emilia Romagna has a pleasant climate which allows visitors to enjoy the area almost all year-round. From May to September, it can be very hot, averaging 27 C (81 F) but a trip to the coast offers cooling sea breezes. The area gets heavy rain showers especially in the spring and autumn. The area is at its quietest from November to February when temperatures are around 6 to 12 C (43 to 54 F) and there is plenty of sunshine but cold winds.
