"Just awesome! I’ll start with location. Knowledgeable Rome visitors know that Trastevere (TRA) is a great place to stay, but choosing WHERE in TRA is also critical. This place is on a quiet side street, not right on the main drag (Viale di Trastevere, VdT) or right in some popular piazza, so it’s quiet at night. Secondly, it's in the northern part of TRA, just south of the Tiber, not all the way down VdT by the train station like our 2014 place. That means you're over a MILE closer, and hence easy walking distance, to many tourist spots. Also, walking about 600 yds west (across VdT) puts you into the heart of TRA – Piazza di Santa Maria in TRA and all its wonderful shops, bars, and restaurants. This property is so centrally located that we didn't bother to buy a metro/tram/bus pass for this trip. Distances: Pantheon 0.8 miles, Colosseum 1.3, Campo de' Fiori 0.6, Vatican 1.8 (lovely walk along Tiber). Lungotevere, a cool tent city of vendors along the Tiber during the summer months, is 400 yds away.
The location alone earns it five stars but there's more! Our party was two couples, me/wife and our son/girlfriend. The recently-renovated, modern, two-story layout is like two apartments, each with its own bedroom AND FULL BATHROOM. So, you can retreat to the privacy of separate floors and bathroom sharing is kept to a minimum. There are 3 modern, quiet A/C units, one in each BR and one in the kitchenette on the first floor. It was great coming home from a hot Roman day outside into the cool apartment. The icing on the cake is the terrace on the 3rd floor – it’s big and just perfect for enjoying vino. This place also has a DW, WM, iron, 2 hair dryers, safe, BBQ grill. Hot water is plentiful, water pressure good, and lots of electrical outlets.
The host, Alessio, was wonderful. He speaks/writes fluent English and his info is clear and comprehensive. HE will meet you at the apt. upon your arrival to explain everything; many owners don’t even live in the area and will rely on someone else with potentially poor English skills to TRY to do so, not great when you’re tired from an overnight flight.
If you use Alessio’s driver (recommended!), make sure you completely exit Customs to find him! After getting stamped, you’ll enter a large room with baggage carousels and you’ll see drivers holding signs. THIS IS NOT WHERE YOU MEET HIM! Instead, walk past all the carousels and out another door and that’s where he’ll be.
THANKS SO MUCH, Alessio! Alla prossima!"
