"The apartment was exactly as described on VRBO. Very comfortable, close to terrific restaurants, and convenient to all of central Rome. Susanna the owner was very helpful. Nice to have an elevator for getting luggage to the apartment. Two restaurants, Da Sergio and La Quercia were very close by and excellent. Don't miss the Abbey Theatre Tavern close to Piazza Navona. Would recommend this property for any couple."

  • A PERFECT HOLIDAY

"I recommend this house near the beach air conditioned and wi fi. Fregene is a quiet place to relax and in only 30 minutes you are in Rome. Everything worked perfect, booking, payment, transport to and from airport. The apartment is perfect for 2-4 people. We really enjoyed to have a garden to sit outside in the warm evenings and enjoy a glass of italian wine. I’ll surely return here!"

  • Honeymoon rental

"I have mixed feelings about this property. The apartment itself is wonderful. Charming and rather large (it was just my husband and me), it provided us everything we could have wanted. I enjoyed the ability to escape the rat race of Rome, and in August it was certainly much cooler in Ladispoli. The kitchen was very well equipped, however, we never did find wine glasses. They had to have been there and we most likely just missed them. The owners, Louise and Aldo, have everything you could possibly need for the beach. Towels, bags, chairs, umbrellas, etc. I was very concerned about the lack of A/C in August, however opening the doors to the balcony and window in the bathroom created a lovely cross breeze. Ladispoli itself is okay. This is no Amalfi coast or Cinque Terre, but there were a bunch of fun festivals going on when we were there. The people were super friendly and the dinner prices were far less than Rome. Stay away from the beach restaurants, though. Over priced and not worth it. The best meal we had in town was one we prepared ourselves with fresh pasta from around the corner. Now. The down side. There is an outdoor dance club directly across the street from the apartment. Since there is no A/C and the doors needed to be open, that meant my husband and I had to wait until the bar closed every night to go to sleep. On the weekend this was 3am, weeknights 2am. I didn't get a good night's sleep once while we were there. Also, the hot water stopped working Wednesday during our stay. We went three days with no hot water for showers. The super was very apologetic, but there was never an email from the owner apologizing or offering some type of compensation. (compensation wouldn't really have been necessary, but an apologetic email would have been nice) All in all, I would recommend this place, but not during the summer months when the club is obviously in full swing."

  • Perfect "Home Away from Home" in Rome

"I did many hours of research before booking this lovely home for a four-night stay. Let me save you some trouble: just book this! The owner (and her assistant) are prompt with responses and the entire transaction went off without a hitch. We felt like locals living here: shopping in the nearby grocery stores (where we picked up bread, cheese, and fruit each day at very reasonable prices), sipping coffee at the local cafes, eating in the local restaurants - all just steps from the front door. It's an easy walk to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo di Fiori, and an easy 10-15 minute walk to the Vatican and St. Peters. A taxi stand is around the corner and bus stops are quite close. The house is equipped with all you need for a comfortable stay and plenty of room for four adults. We always felt safe in the neighborhood and in the building. When we return to Rome we would stay here again! Fiona's assistant made arrangements for a driver to meet us at the airport and, as others have suggested, it was well worth it - especially after a long overseas flight - and only a few Euro more than a taxi. The house was very clean and comfortable. A great base from which to explore this beautiful city!"

Rome Travel Tips

Rome Holiday Rentals by Owner

What could be better than a Rome vacation? A Rome short term rental apartment or Rome villa rental will allow you to stay near the attractions that matter most to you, whether you want to stay near the Colosseum or the Vatican. Perhaps you want a Rome vacation rental within walking distance of the best selection of restaurants and shops. Planning ahead will help make your Rome vacation dream a reality in a city that offers so much, from history, art, architecture, and attractions to world-famous culture and a taste of the Italian lifestyle.

Transportation around Rome

Study public transportation options in advance - driving in the city during your Rome holiday is not recommended as traffic is extremely heavy and unpredictable. From Rome’s airport, known as Fiumicino (19 miles or about 45 minutes from the center of Rome), train service can transport you to Station Termini near the center of town, from which the city’s metro (subway) and bus systems connect to Rome hotels and Rome rental apartments. If you prefer the direct route, arrange for taxi transportation before you arrive in order to secure the best rates. Public transportation from Rome vacation rentals is inexpensive, but learn the system because travelers without proper tickets can incur steep fines for violations.

Things to Do in Rome

This rich city can be overwhelming. Don’t allow a Rome vacation to become a list of “to-dos” that must be checked off, but take time to savor the sights. Plan for excursions to the places you really want to see as you also linger over Italian food, stroll, people-watch, and, like a true Roman, take an afternoon nap. Arrange to stay in a Rome self-catering vacation rental within walking distance of your list of must-see attractions. Take advantage of tourist passes that allow unlimited rides on city transportation. Travel guides will explain the options and help you plan ahead for transportation around your Rome apartment rental and to outlying destinations in Italy. A Rome villa rental on the city’s outskirts can provide more room, scenery and serenity but will likely require a rental car. Your Rome vacation rental host can be a great source of information for getting around in and enjoying the city.

The weather in Rome, Italy is at its best in spring and fall, but tourist season runs from Easter to October, and Rome vacations are popular. A fall or winter Rome holiday trip will allow you to explore without the long waits to get into popular attractions. August is hot, and many locals will leave the city for their own European holidays, closing restaurants and shops for the month. If you plan a summer Rome vacation, try to see the city in the morning and evening, and avoid the heat and crowds of midday. Once you decide on the best time of year and Rome accommodations to suit your dream Rome vacation, enjoy an amazing Rome, Italy holiday taking in its culture, history and beauty.
