"i have been traveling to rome for some 25 years ...staying in beautiful hotels..however, having one's "own" apartment is simply the best. "the familia siragusa" could not have been more kind or more responsive to any request..the location is perfect for walking to all the wonders of this beguiling city...yet, the street is quiet, "neighborly", the apartment is well equipped, well-kept, and very comfortable...with a sweet little balcony to enjoy a glass of wine(or two) in the evening.. a most perfect "home"."

  • What a great holiday and lovely house

"We stayed in the house for a week from saterday untill saterday end of April. We visited with our kids aged 2 and 4. We really enjoyed this lovely house and the surroundings. Everyday we had breakfast on the terrace just outside the kitchen. Then we went to the piazza (the little square) for some coffee and just watch the local Italian life come to life. Stimigliano is a nice small village where you are the only tourists. Very friendly people. In the afternoon we mostly stayed at the pool cause the kids loved it. I also liked the fact that the pool and terrace were very close to the house so you don't loose sight of the kids. In the evening we went to the restaurant Da Lina for pizza or pasta. We also tried a restaurant in Vescuvio which was very nice connected to a church. But Da Lina was just 5 min drive from the house so very convenient and great food. Thanks for mentioning the new outlet shopping center outside of Stimigliano in your welcome book, I enjoyed going shopping there. We had planned to take the train from Stimigliano to Rome for a day but we loved relaxing at the pool so much we never got to it! We will have to come back next year. Thanks for a lovely week. • Delight of Rome!

"We utilized the car service and after a long overseas flight, it was a great decision. Alessio, manager, then met us at the apartment to give us keys and show us around. The apartment is very comfortable and well maintained. Coffee was provided! The kitchenette allowed us to buy some foods locally and have available for snacks and light meals. There is a wonderful coffee shop just down the street and right next to the apartment is a pizza shop with delicious pizza! Centrally located and close to a subway stop. Within walking distance of Colosseo and Forum. Would highly recommend and would stay again on a return visit to Rome! Thanks Alessio!"

Latium (Lazio) Travel Tips

Stay in Style at Lazio, Italy Vacation Rentals

The region of Lazio, also known as Latium, is about halfway down the western side of the “boot” of Italy and includes the capital city of Rome. Inhabited long before the Romans arrived, the area has a long and fascinating history. It was part of the Papal States governed by the Vatican until the 1860s and not a particularly wealthy area at that time. Now a key area for the production of wine, agriculture, manufacturing and textiles, the area is currently flourishing. The city of Rome is at the heart of the region, with all its historic sights and attractions.

Lazio, Italy Vacation Rentals are Perfect for Family Vacations

Renting a vacation rental in the Lazio region is the best way to experience the unique culture of this charming area. From your own home-away-from-home base, you can explore the area at your own pace; go shopping at the local market and dine in the trattorias. A vacation villa makes the perfect base to return to at the end of a busy day sightseeing in Rome. You can be assured of a comfortable bed and a homely living area for relaxing each evening. Vacation villas are spacious and well-equipped to a high standard, despite their sometimes historic exterior. Outdoor living is part of the pleasure of staying in Lazio. Most vacation villas have paved terraces and gardens from which to enjoy views of the surrounding area.

Things to do in Rome from Lazio, Italy Accommodations

Lazio is well known for its arts, history, architecture, churches, archaeology and cultural inheritance. The eternal city of Rome has something for everyone including the Vatican City with St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the extensive Vatican Museums. The sights of the ancient city include the Forum, Palatine Hill, the Coliseum and Nero’s Palace. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the many churches are delightful places to wander around and discover for yourself. Designer shopping and small boutiques line the streets along with many cafés and restaurants. Those who appreciate fine art and architecture will be overwhelmed by all this city has to offer.

Traveling Around Lazio, Italy Villas

The main airport is Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) International Airport which is approximately 30 km (20 miles) southwest of Rome. Ciampino Airport is smaller and closer to the city center, just 15 km (10 miles) southeast of the city. It is popular with discount airlines such as Ryan Air which offers flights to many major European cities.

Places to Visit From Lazio

The area of Ostia Antica is an ancient city about 20 minutes from Rome. Here you can see the amphitheater, public buildings, cafés, firemen’s barracks and the local synagogue. Ostia Antica is a great alternative to the busier city of Pompeii.

A 90-minute drive into the mountains will reward visitors with snow-capped mountains and beautiful vistas. The area is home to more than a dozen 13th-century monasteries, attributed to St. Francis. Day trips to the lakes at Bracciano, Bosena and Nemi are perfect antidotes to the crowds of Rome. South of Lazio, there are a number of beautiful beaches along the coast offering wide sandy beaches and safe swimming.

Lazio’s Climate and Weather

Lazio enjoys a perfect Mediterranean maritime climate. It benefits from the fresh sea breezes during the hot summer months; the winter months are mild and sunny. The mountains are the perfect escape from the heat during July and August. However, a visit to Rome can be enjoyed at any time of year as there is so much to see and do indoors.
