Alba Travel Tips

Step Back in Time with Alba Vacation Rentals

Spending time in Piedmont villas during your next trip to Italy will offer you a chance to explore the rich history of Alba. It is known as the City of 100 Towers because of the ancient battlements that were a part of it. The town's historical center is still housed inside the ancient Roman walls that once bordered Alba. Medieval houses, palaces, towers and churches dot the area.

The most notable of these is the Cathedral of San Lorenzo (Duomo), built in 12th century. Much of the current cathedral dates from its 19th century restoration, but the original bell tower from the 12th century remains intact. Or you can visit the Palazzo Comunale, a 13th-century palace which houses Macrino d'Alba's Nativity and other notable artwork.

Taste the Flavor of Alba

No stay in Piedmont villas at Alba is complete without indulging in one of their famous white truffles or sampling some red Barolo and Barbaresco wines. Top wineries in Alba include: Angelo Gaja, Pio Cesare and Cordero di Montezemolo. You can also whip up an appetite for local peaches or local dishes like gallo al Barolo (Rooster with Barolo wine).

When staying in any Alba vacation rentals, aim to visit Alba in the autumn during prime truffle season. This is when truffles are hunted out in the hillsides and find their way onto local menus in restaurants -- such as Trattoria della posta or La Vigneto -- throughout the region. The truffle fair held here in October is one of Italy's best known and it is well attended by celebrities from around the world.

Enjoy the Outdoors in Alba

Nestled at the foot of the Langhe Mountains, Alba serves any tourist who would wants to explore the mountain country. Alba accommodations are perfect starting point for a cycling or hiking trip.
