  • Wonderful and peaceful place in the aeolian islands

"We rented the Villa for a week in August and had a fantastic stay over there. Mary Ann - the owner - was very helpful before we rented as she provided lots of information ahead of time and helped to make the reservation totally seamless from the US. In Santa Marina, Salina her cousin Marusca welcome us, toured the house, and introduced us to the local grocery shop. Marusca speaks only Italian but she will do anything to make sure you have the best experience over there! The Villa is perfectly located in Via Roma, a few steps away from the popular and vibrant Via Risorgimento. You will find there many shops, groceries, fresh fruits, bakery,... and many outstanding restaurants. The Villa is huge! Can accommodate 2 families easily, while still providing some intimacy. 2 terraces outdoor give a fantastic view on Lipari and Panarea islands. Our week was very relaxing; we enjoyed several local restaurants, rented a motor boat for a day and tour the island (there are a couple of places where you can stop and enjoy a good swim). Also went on a boat excursion for a day; stopped at Panarea for a couple of hours (enjoyed the granitas...) and had dinner next to the impressive and active Stromboli. The small rocky beach in Santa Marina offers a great place to swim all day long (bring swimming shoes though). There is also a place with shallow water for the younger kids. The week was a little too short for us to enjoy Lipari and its fantastic museum but we'll come back!"

  • Good Stromboli Getaway

"My family and I enjoyed a nice week on Stromboli island at Casa Dox in the Ficogrande beach area. My parents joined us and our three kids for a week there and we enjoyed relaxing away from the distractions of internet, phone and tv. We read a lot of books, enjoyed the very close beach 30 meters away and ate a lot of gelatto in the process. We only ran into like 2 English speakers there, so it was like a crash course in Italian to get us by, but we made it through okay. Fiora was extremely nice and helpful to work with in booking the rental and Pippo at the island was helpful and kind although he spoke no English so we never really knew what he was telling us with regards to living in the place. The house is roomy and has plenty of room for 10 people including three showers and a laundry room. There are fans in each room and an adequate kitchen. If you come from the West like my parents did, you would probably miss air conditioning and a microwave, but thankfully we had some rain which cooled things down for a few days. The garden was really pretty and nice there and added to the mood as we were able to gaze at the sea laying in loungers there and looking at Strombolicchio all day long. At night, we turned the chairs around and stared at the volcano where you could watch is spew small amounts of lava and clinkers hourly. My kids had a great time at the house and actually did quite a bit of artwork there of the volcano and seascape. We found Pumice rocks on the beach, collected lava rocks, made sand castles and swam in the ocean. The only downer for them was that although there are pools on the island, no hotel on the island would let us pay a daily rate to use it so the kids never got any pool time. This was a special place and has given us many fond memories for the future."
