  • Wonderful historic castle

"Forget Chiantishire - here's your chance to enjoy the real Tuscany, in this quirky castle packed with history. We enjoyed two weeks here with our family - loving the homely feel of the house, the pool and garden, enjoying great family meals, and exploring the neighbourhood. Anghiari was an unexpected gem of a medieval walled village with good restaurants and excellent local shops, while Sansepolcro was packed with interest including the market and the not-to-be-missed Aboca Museum. With an excellent train service from nearby Arezzo, the whole of Tuscany is easily accessible. Mario and Hermine were wonderful hosts and we thoroughly recommend Pianettole. Reached by a winding track up the mountain, access is not for the faint-hearted, but quite manageable and we loved the views. The main bathroom is up a fairly challenging old staircase, so not recommended for anyone with mobility problems."

  • Truly Exceptional

"There's often a gap between expectation and reality when renting a holiday flat. But in this case, there was no disappointment, no letdown, only pleasure that someone's home could become our home so quickly. We're experienced travellers, we rent flats frequently, and there's sometimes a sense of commercial sterility about a place. Not so with this one. We were delighted from the moment we arrived. It's large, spacious, sunny—the morning light coming into the kitchen is beautiful—and very comfortable. In spite of the fact there's so much to see in the picturesque town of Anghiari and the surrounding area, it's tempting to spend a lot of time at home. The flat (which is really more like a house, with two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a laundry-room), is so well-equipped with everything one might need, it's easy to settle in immediately. The owner goes out of her way to provide anything and everything one could want: a kitchen that lacks for nothing, books for every taste, information about what to do and where to go, someone on hand to answer inquiries and assist in other ways. And WIFI, which was a blessing since we had cause to make a number of phone calls abroad via Skype. There's a good restaurant across the road, a charming family-run supermarket around the corner, a market every Wednesday, friendly locals in the centre where the shops are, a number of small cafés in the square where you can sit and have a latte and a (superb) biscotti (or a piece of excellent pizza) and feel a part of the community. We can't recommend this too highly. It was exactly what we had hoped for, a chance to pretend we lived in Italy, a country we love to be in, and immerse ourselves in the culture. This is a home that contributed greatly to our doing just that. We would have stayed for a month if we could."

  • Wow, what a great stay

"We loved this apartment in Anghiari! The bedrooms were smaller than we expected, but certainly ok, and the ceiling fans were essential as it was hot. The kitchen was stocked for our arrival with basic essentials and the living areas very comfortable. The upstairs bathroom was noisy (water pump) and small, but the downstairs bathroom with a washer/dryer (we didn't need the latter as it was so hot) was just great. Because the apartment is in the upper city wall, the views out the window were amazing, and by leaving the front door open, we had a nice cross breeze. And the same for the upstairs area. Lovely comfortable furnishings and our hosts were in residence just down the street so we enjoyed an evening with them at their apartment. Anghiari is the perfect medieval village, narrow winding streets (it's on a hill, so there's plenty of up and down) with flowers everywhere, quiet, clean, lovely. We were met at the top of Anghiari at a bar by Guiseppe (once we reached him) who led us to the property. We were able to park our car just outside the wall so had a very short walk to the apartment from the car. We tried three local restaurants, all good, especially Da Alighiero and Feudo del Vicario. Would recommend this apartment highly, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Tuscany!"

  • Springtime in Tuscany

"Though short, our stay at the Cottage was a most pleasant and satisfying experience. The weather was perfect, the hospitality provided by our hosts was much appreciated, and the quiet evenings filled with birdsong, crickets & frogs were idyllic. Two nearby restaurants were outstanding: Osteria La Pergola in Tavernna, and Da Alighiero in Anghiari."
