  • Idyllic! a spacious home-from-home in a beautiful Tuscan village!

"There were four of us: two adults, a child and a teenager! and because of that particular configuration, the first thing I want to emphasise is the spaciousness! Molly's place is absolutely beautiful but also much bigger than the photographs lead one to believe. We were all immensely comfortable: the living room is big, has high ceilings and is superbly comfortable but so is the kitchen and so are the bedrooms and the bathroom and the extra toilet! The big old walls of days-gone-by mean that sound doesn't travel from room to room. It's all very tastefully done up as can be seen in the photos, there are loads of beautiful objects picked up on travel trips or from local antique dealers I suppose. If we could buy a place in Tuscany (not going to happen!) we both agreed that we'd look in Monte San Savino! Why? because it's no more than ten minutes to the autoroute which means that you can go to loads of places without spending half the day getting there: the beautiful Tuscan roads are of course to die for, but they can also making getting from A to B difficult. We went to Arezzo, Cartona, Pienza, Florence and Lucignano, but we were suprised to realise that we could also have gone to Siena, Orvieto and Perugia! as well as ramble around the Chianti... But the other reason for our enthusiasm was that Monte San Savino is a beautiful Tuscan village that hasn't been transformed into a museum town, the way Pienza has for instance. And it's calm also. Monte San Savino still has a life of its own with a friendly atmosphere, there are friendly locals chatting away in the cafés, and we met and chatted with the owner of one of the lovely local restaurants (Le Bindi) and also with the owner of the local café, etc. The temperatures while we were there were surprisingly low (10 to 23 degrees celcius), so we lit a wonderful fire in the living room, which had the children extactic of course! Although the heating was top notch also, as it heated up the living room in a few minutes... I can't sign off without mentioning the fantastically big and comfortable bed!!! It must be king size or extra king size or whatever! in any case, we ADORED it! And finally thank you Molly! for an absolutely WONDERFUL holiday: it couldn't have been better! We want to come again!!!! xx O It's true as Molly points out that the big old stone staircases which connect the downstairs to the upstairs are probably not suitable for people with reduced mobility... Others will ADORE however!!"

  • Springtime in Tuscany

"Though short, our stay at the Cottage was a most pleasant and satisfying experience. The weather was perfect, the hospitality provided by our hosts was much appreciated, and the quiet evenings filled with birdsong, crickets & frogs were idyllic. Two nearby restaurants were outstanding: Osteria La Pergola in Tavernna, and Da Alighiero in Anghiari."
