"My family (daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters, ages 7 & 9) just returned from a truly magical week at Casa Montisole. The advert I read before I booked 6 months in advance didn't do it justice! It is an old stone and wood farmhouse with several levels, beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable, very clean and well-maintained. It really is a home away from home, with many amenities all of which were in perfect working order. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms modern with continuous hot water. The kitchen was well-fitted out with every conceivable (& expensive) piece of cookware necessary for a family of up to 8. The surrounding garden and further, the countryside, is etched in my mind forever! The pool was inviting and large enough for (non-Olympic) laps and is beautifully situated on the property. It comes with chaise lounges and umbrellas, as the sun is very strong. We particularly enjoyed going into Mercatale, (the nearest small village about a ten minute drive) for our morning breads from the local bakery. Also in Mercatale was "Mimmi's", a ristorante we visited twice as the food was family style (no menu) and absolutely the best pasta we had the two weeks we were in Italy... Our daily excursions took us to Arezzo, Siena, Gubbio, Lago Trasimeno and Montepulchiano. All were exciting adventures with lots of challenging driving. Every village and hill town was different and had plenty to offer tourists. I can honestly speak for my family when I say that we never had a bad meal anywhere in Italy, but especially in Tuscany and Umbria. I would highly recommend Casa Montisole as the perfect vacation spot to bask in glorious countryside and forget the problems of the world. It was an unforgettable holiday! Having just done my laundry, I'm ready to re-pack and return to that beautiful house."Guest: Annie Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: July 22, 2014View listing
"We had a wonderful stay at the barn in spite of the worst weather ever! Keith and Helen are courteous hosts who have paid attention to every detail in the house, pool area and garden. The dogs are an added bonus. What a shame we didn't have more sunshine. That would have created perfection!"Guest: Jane and James Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: August 3, 2014View listing
"Though short, our stay at the Cottage was a most pleasant and satisfying experience. The weather was perfect, the hospitality provided by our hosts was much appreciated, and the quiet evenings filled with birdsong, crickets & frogs were idyllic. Two nearby restaurants were outstanding: Osteria La Pergola in Tavernna, and Da Alighiero in Anghiari."Guest: The O'Neills Date of Stay: May 2014 Review Submitted: May 17, 2014View listing
"What a wonderful surprise! The villa is in perfect condition, the bedrooms are roomy and elegant, updated modern bathrooms, cozy living room, large dining room and the views are not to be believed! The grounds are well maintained and so lovely. The house has a fantastic view but the view from the pool is even better. Wonderful BBQ and pizza oven with all the tools needed. Just a short walk to the main square of quaint Cortona. Our hosts, Beppe, Nicoletta & Luigi were so helpful and accommodating - dinner reservations, wine tour reservations, where to find the best gelato in town, etc. Don't hesitate to book this amazing property. You won't be disappointed!"Guest: Kelley K. Date of Stay: October 2013 Review Submitted: October 12, 2013View listing
Cortona Travel Tips
Cortona Travel Captures Beauty and Wonder
Who has not dreamt of renting or owning Tuscany villas at one point in their life? Let that fantasy become a reality and start planning your Cortona travel today. With magnificent panoramic views, Cortona is a perfect vacation destination, whether you are hoping for a romantic getaway or a cultural expedition with the kids. In recent years, the town and surrounding areas have grown in popularity due to its appearance in two major motion pictures (“Life is Beautiful” and “Under the Tuscan Sun”) as well as its innate Italian beauty.
Touring near Any Cortona Accommodation
The town itself is very small so no matter which Cortona accommodation you have selected, your best bet is to explore the town on foot. In fact, if you plan on touring the town, please remember to wear comfortable shoes as these perfect Tuscany villas are tucked away among very steep and narrow streets. Be sure to include the Etruscan tombs and a visit to the Palazzo Comunale (the Town Hall), which was built in the 1400s, in your Cortona travel.
The Town Squares of Tuscany Villas
Part of the fun of staying in Tuscany villas is the easy access to quintessential town squares. Cortona travel is incomplete without visiting the piazzas, whether to buy some locally-made bread, see local art, or just to stop in a small café for a glass of wine. Do not miss visiting Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Signorelli, and Piazza Garibaldi.
Cooking and Cortona Travel
If you love Italian food and cooking, this is the place to be! Be sure to book a Cortona accommodation with a fully equipped kitchen so that you can take advantage of some of the freshest foods in town (and some of the best wine on the planet)! If you can, schedule a cooking class which many hotels in the area offer. Learn how to recreate some of your favorite Tuscan dishes and prepare them with ease at home.
