  • slice of real life in Tuscany

"My husband and I spent a week in Molly and Mark's apartment in Monte San Savino, a little hill town in the middle of Tuscany. The house on the 2 top floors overlooking the narrow main street and piazza of the town has been lived in since the 1300's and the stone steps show the wear. But it has been so beautifully renovated that while you feel the old charm in the stone and bricks and fireplaces in every room, the kitchen and bathrooms are modern and comfortable. The kitchen is spacious with the cooking tools of people who love to cook. We hung laundry on the pull lines outside the kitchen windows. When we opened the shutters every morning we could hear musical Italian voices 4 stories below, especially from the gelateria where everyone congregates. It was lovely to hear the voices, but not understand their words. The master bedroom is very comfortable (great bed). I'm glad we didn't have to share the master bath with another couple. The long bath is divided in the middle with a bath/shower with sinks on both sides. It would have been ok to share with a couple or kids, but great that we each got our own bathroom this way. There is a washing machine and dishwasher. They have a good collection of DVD's. We watched several Charlie Chaplin movies in the comfortable living room with 2 couches. They have lots of tourist info and cookbooks. Molly collects fabrics from around the world and they are artfully displayed. The location of Monte San Savino is fantastic. You can go up the hill from MSS and over a country road to Sienna in an hour (recommended) or zip down to the freeway and get there in 30 min. Cortona is 40 minutes across the flat plain where you can see hill towns silhouettes on every mountain. Every day we went to a different town in our little Fiat and enjoyed turning off on country roads. You can't get lost. After being in crowded tourist towns it was always a relief to retu Though it's not a tourist town, there are several nice restaurants inside and outside the walls of MSS and a little grocery store. Down the hill 5 minutes is a more modern shopping area. You can engage Molly and Mark's friend Naika to show you the house when you arrive and be available to answer questions and give advice. We were glad we did. Her family owns a mountain bike shop. This area is fantastic for bikers who are everywhere! The weather in May could not have been more perfect - everything was green and flowery with bales of wheat in the fields."

  • A Taste of Luxury in Anghiari

"My wife and I have enjoyed this apartment very much. It made our stay in Anghiari ideal. The apartment is impressive - beautiful, comfortable and well-equipped. We easily prepared meals there on the occasions we were not on day trips. When we decided to eat in restaurants, we were spoiled for choice in Anghiari and the surrounding area. And, any time of day, it was pleasant to stop at a local café for cappuccino and to simply soak up the atmosphere of the place. Anghiari is a working town, the people are genial, and there is plenty to do and see. We highly recommend a visit there and a ten-day stay allows travellers to take in the town and visit other destinations of historical and cultural interest."
