  • Magical Montisole, near Cortona, Arezzo Province, Italy

"My family (daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters, ages 7 & 9) just returned from a truly magical week at Casa Montisole. The advert I read before I booked 6 months in advance didn't do it justice! It is an old stone and wood farmhouse with several levels, beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable, very clean and well-maintained. It really is a home away from home, with many amenities all of which were in perfect working order. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms modern with continuous hot water. The kitchen was well-fitted out with every conceivable (& expensive) piece of cookware necessary for a family of up to 8. The surrounding garden and further, the countryside, is etched in my mind forever! The pool was inviting and large enough for (non-Olympic) laps and is beautifully situated on the property. It comes with chaise lounges and umbrellas, as the sun is very strong. We particularly enjoyed going into Mercatale, (the nearest small village about a ten minute drive) for our morning breads from the local bakery. Also in Mercatale was "Mimmi's", a ristorante we visited twice as the food was family style (no menu) and absolutely the best pasta we had the two weeks we were in Italy... Our daily excursions took us to Arezzo, Siena, Gubbio, Lago Trasimeno and Montepulchiano. All were exciting adventures with lots of challenging driving. Every village and hill town was different and had plenty to offer tourists. I can honestly speak for my family when I say that we never had a bad meal anywhere in Italy, but especially in Tuscany and Umbria. I would highly recommend Casa Montisole as the perfect vacation spot to bask in glorious countryside and forget the problems of the world. It was an unforgettable holiday! Having just done my laundry, I'm ready to re-pack and return to that beautiful house."

  • Lovely Location and View!!

"My sister and I stayed in this very comfortable and historic vacation home during the last week of March 2014. Flavia, Fausto and Anna (their daughter) are wonderful hosts, extremely helpful (we had a flat tire) and accommodating! The house itself boast of heated floors (ground level only), a spacious living area, very comfortable bedroom areas, well equipped kitchen, very nice bathrooms. My sister and I were on a rather extended vacation and decided before we ever made plans that we would NOT share a bedroom (or a bathroom, if we could help it). We knew we were going to be with each other for many days on end, and we figured that we'd like some "alone" time along the way. Most of our accommodations were hotel varieties and met our standards/needs... but this charming stop along the way was hard to leave! AND, we also had access to the family washing machine (Flavia gave us a key to use whenever we needed it). The location was ideal, giving us easy access to Cortona, Arezzo and many other villages. The owners made recommendations for restaurants that were spot on!!! Some of the best meals we had during our 5 country journey were right around the corner!"

  • Perfect family stay

"We had an absolutely wonderful time at Casa Helena. Our family of five, including three teenagers, stayed here for the better part of two weeks at the end of July / beginning of August. This was the first trip to Europe for the kids, and we left with a lifetime of memories. We had high expectations for the property, having heard of it from others who had stayed there. These were easily exceeded. Pre-arrival, we had received a detailed guide from the owner, which proved to be incredibly helpful throughout our stay. We were met in nearby Camucia by Stefania, who gave us a tour of the property (and greeted each of us with a very Italian two kisses on the cheek!). During the stay we made very good use of the newly remodeled kitchen and outdoor grill. Fresh vegetables and homemade olive oil and wine from the surrounding grounds complemented our dinners perfectly. Eating well is big for our family, and we couldn't have been more satisfied. We also made good use of the pool -- an excellent way to relax after exploring Cortona and other nearby towns. The views of Cortona from the backyard were absolutely gorgeous. The location of Casa Helena was likewise perfect. Morning walks up to the town of Cortona were pleasant. We also took day trips to Florence, Lake Tasiemeno (for wake boarding), Castiglione, Sienna, and nearby vineyards for wine tastings. All of these were easily reachable. As this was the kids' first trip, we also took an overnight trip to Rome -- also easily reached with a two hour drive. We did find that having a car was a good idea if you like to explore as we do. Our experience at Casa Helena was truly wonderful. We will definitely recommend it to friends."

  • Outstanding! What a lovely apartment - in a great town!

"I have just recently finished renting this apartment - and it was absolutely wonderful! We found Il Roseto on VRBO and started to communicate with the owner. He was great - all emails were answered quickly, and questions were answered. The apartment was clean and ready for us when we arrived - with a bottle of wine and fresh fruit on the table to welcome us! That really was a nice extra touch. The apartment is a great place....all very comfortable - with three nice bedrooms and two great bathrooms. The owner also had the TV and Wifi working - which is great to have. The best part of the apartment, though, is the outside patio/garden! That truly made it ...sitting outside having coffee or drinks in the evening was so nice! Cortona is a great town to visit - and Il Roseto really is THE place to stay! Fernando, the owner, is very helpful and easy to contact if needed....and we loved our time at his place!"
