"We spent two weeks in Mulino a Vento and it was the highlight of our six weeks holiday in Europe. Everything was perfect for our group of six adults and we were very happy.
Nicoletta, Beppe and Luigi were always helpful and generous with their time and advice and they made us feel very welcome. We were greeted with a bottle of wine & chocolates on our first night!!
The villa is perched high on the hill of Cortona, overlooking the valley and during the day you can see Lake Trasimeno and many small towns. Each night the lights in the valley sparkle in the darkness. The view is beautiful and we never tired of looking.
Everything in the villa was extremely comfortable and soon became like our home away from home. It was only a ten minute walk into the centre of town where there are lots of restaurants, shops and lovely piazza's where you can sit or wander.
We did quite a few easy day trips - Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, the Chianti, Florence, Assisi and Arezzo to name just some.
We would all return to Mulino a Vento and Cortona in a heartbeat if we ever have the chance!!"

"Good friends recommended Le Mura Etrusche after their outstanding experience with Patrizia (mother) and Lucia (daughter) in May 2011. It's still outstanding! We arrived a bit late for our 5 night stay due to some difficulty finding this home (see tips below), so after being given a tour of our apartment and the garden (including the stone steps climbing up to the glorious rock outcropping overlooking the valley), Patrizia offered to drive us down into Cortona to Trattoria Dardano, where she introduced us to her friend and made sure there was room for us in this very popular - and delicious - restaurant. Such service!
The apartment is described well in other reviews - we loved it. Let me add that Lucia stocked the refrigerator with breakfast items so we didn't have to shop for food our first morning before we had our coffee! So thoughtful. Also included were some of Patrizia's homemade jam, flavored homemade olive oil and homemade licquor (not for breakfast...I don't think!). We made dinner one evening and planned to eat in the garden overlooking the valley. As we entered the garden, there was Patrizia on her riding mower, working away in the early evening. She stopped and set out a lovely picnic table for us. And on our final night, we took advantage of the offer of dinner made by Patrizia. There is a photo album of items one can choose and the food was simply wonderful - plus Patrizia treated us to some surprises: delicious pickled vegetables and olives from her garden, a refreshing dessert and homemade limoncello or lemon cream. Are you getting a feel for the warm hospitality here? Our hostesses were not intrusive at all, but when we saw them, it added to our experience. This is a wonderful place to stay! Cortona's restaurants are great, too! Beware STEEP walk down and back up...good workout!
Direction tips for first-timers: Climb up the hill to Cortona, look for a TORREONE sign. Follow this and go PAST first archway through wall with lots of parking. The road seems to go away from the wall (valley on your left); keep climbing the hill to the next small commercial area: you'll see TORREONE sign. Turn right: on the left is Locanda "I Grifi" Ristorante (small sign) and, Caffe del Torreone straight ahead. FAR right, downhill a bit, is sign to "Monastero d S. Chiara." This is your gravel road! Right after driving through the ancient archway, look left - you are there. You'll see Patrizia and Lucia's names on their door."
