"We stayed in this incredible apartment for 10 nights in early May this year, and to say it exceeded expectations would fail to do the residence, and its hosts, justice. We were warmly welcomed by Paolo, and introduced to its amenities. Our fully equipped kitchen was well-stocked with goodies (wine, fruit, bread, cheese, olive oil, and more, including an incredible dessert bread my husband ate all of!). As others have indicatetd, everything in the apartment from its furnishings and linens, to the books on the shelves, reflects family pride and a refined Italian sensibility, yet we felt entirely comfortable claiming the space as our own. The terrace was perhaps its finest feature. I spent hours there, reading, sipping coffee or wine, listening to the birds chittering away, and delighted by the sprinkles of Italian conversation I could overhear. It became my new happy place and I sent "wish you were here" selfies to everyone I know!
But enough romanticism... here's what you need to know: the apartment is in a quiet, combination studio/residential/university neighbourhood, within 15-20 minutes' walk of the City Centre, and all its museums, galleries, and shopping. There are food and wine shops, along with countless restaurants, within equally easy access. We felt perfectly comfortable at night, though the square at San Marco can be populated with dodgy characters.
Everything you need is in the apartment, even such things as Q-tips and face soap! I suspect some of these items are "leftovers", as I left over the toiletries I did not want to pack, but it is nonetheless a thoughtful gesture to leave them in place. Hairdryers are in each bathroom, but do not count on using your own (North American) "dual voltage" appliances, because Paolo says it might fry the (apartment) circuits.
The bed was very comfortable, the pillows less so; the water pressure & temperature were excellent; and the towels were fluffy & plentiful. We slept with the windows open most nights, but bring or buy bug spray. The mosquitos were vicious. And if you are sensitive to perfumes, you might want to ask Paolo to remove the scent diffusers before your arrival. I found the fragrances quite powerful.
Summing up... brilliant. Were it not for the charms of Florence, we would never have left the apartment."
