  • A Terrific Base for Northern Tuscany

"We stayed at Casa di Pera for 5 wonderful weeks in October in the fantastic city of Lucca. We were on a 3 month trip in Italy and Lucca proved to be a wonderful base for exploring Tuscany. The apartment in within the Old Walls and walkable to everything. It is in an ancient building but has been updated with modern comforts. It is exactly as advertised and is very clean and tidy. The kitchen is particularly well outfitted which was wonderful since we enjoy shopping in the local stores and cooking. During our stay we hosted several groups of family and friends and the apartment was very comfortable for four. There were several days when our 2 adult children stayed with several friends (we had a total of 7 staying!). While a bit crowded we managed just fine and had loads of fun. The 2nd bedroom sleeps 4 and there is also a folding cot which we put up in the large entry area for our son. The 2nd bedroom has a very low ceiling but is otherwise spacious. No one seemed to mind. Both bathrooms are modern and have decent sized showers (very unusual in Italy). The beds were all very comfortable. While not fancy or luxurious the apartment is very comfortable and the owners, Italian Americans, are fantastic. The local manager, Diletta, was very accommodating when we had several minor issues, such as not being able to figure out the oven. Lucca is a fabulous small city which we adored. The train station is right outside the City Walls allowing easy day trips to Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, and many other small towns in Northern Tuscany. Train travel to Southern Tuscany is a bit more complicated as you have to make connections in Florence. Having a car to explore that area is probably best. We highly recommend this apartment for people who like to stay in "real" Italian towns and desire a comfortable home instead of a hotel."

  • Bell’Estate is a gem and an unforgettable experience both for family reasons and for life style

"We were a party of eight, 3 generations of family ranging in age from 26 to 81. Arriving at Bell’ Estate we realized that we had not rented a house but were in someone’s home- and we couldn't help but feel at home during our two week stay. As the website photos indicate, each room is beautifully appointed and each one projects a different personality that reflects the owner's family origins and generations. In advance of booking, Alessandra provided floor plans which we found to be complete and accurate and which were of particular importance given that we had two octogenarians who needed to know that they would be comfortable and able to negotiate what comes with a house built in 1870! Also very helpful both in advance of our arrival and during our stay, was the BE guidebook which included information specific to the house and property, recommendations and directions to shopping, restaurants and excursions. Building and grounds were clean and well maintained –thanks in no small part to Cinzia’s care and tending. On our first night (feeling very jet lagged), it was a brilliant idea to have arranged for Alessandra’s sister Sonia to prepare us a lovely Tuscan dinner -and as well, get oriented in the kitchen and pummel her with questions about BE and Lucca! We ate dinner out only twice and so became very familiar with BE's kitchen -cooking breakfasts and dinners for eight, we found it to be well supplied with cooking (and baking) equipment, appliances, utensils. We were thankful to have the basement washing machine on hand, it was well used during our stay- not always able to hang laundry on the outdoor line we hung it in the basement without any problem. Evenings were typically cool (cold for our Uncle from Hawaii) and Cinzia made sure that we had enough firewood for nightly gatherings by the living room fireplace. We found Alessandra always accessible, pleasant to deal with and most helpful. As we neared the end of our stay we sought her advice on how best to arrange for needed assistance at the Pisa airport for our elders -she got on the phone called the airport directly and emailed us within the hour with detailed instructions that were invaluable to a smooth departure. We whole heartedly recommend Bell'Estate as a wonderful and special place to stay, and Tuscany as a great area - both vital for a great family reunion (and my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary!). We thank Alessandra and her family for sharing all this with us."

  • REAL LUCCA EXPERIENCE (and very comfy beds!)

"We have just returned to our routine after living the real LUCCA EXPERIENCE...and we loved it. We searched for fun, sightseeing and peace and we found them all! Finding Casa Bastione was a real find! From the very first email, I was impressed with the professionalism and efficiency of the communication. It was very reassuring! When we arrived, the owner was great - welcomed us warmly and did everything that she could to make out stay enjoyable. This apartment really tick all the boxes: located in a quiet and historical neighbourhood, a parking in less than 10 minute walking...and then over the corner many restaurants, shops, public transport... The charming atmosphere of the elegant furniture adds value and the gentle bathrooms and comfortable beds and big storage were just...Heaven! We couldnt have asked for more, thank you Sonia for your kindness and warm hospitality."
