"Driving up the "hill" to Villa Pallina you begin to realize that you are entering a slice of Tuscan reality. As you see the farmers tending their gardens or olive trees, the grape vines growing along the hill sides, and the local dogs lounging in the road you know that you are driving to some place special. Our group was immediately in love with the Villa and feel even deeper after hearing of its rich history and the love and romance that it holds within it walls. The views are breath taking and be sure to make the climb behind the Villa to the back side of the hill to be even more pleasantly surprised. The Villa is conveniently located to to many of the must see sites of Italy so get ready for an adventure of a life time. I have rented from Mrs Sonia for several times and I am already in love with her rentals."

Wonderful apartment with terrific terrace in great location
"My husband and I stayed at Luciano & Rosa's apartment for 25 days in September. For almost two weeks during that time, we were joined by my sister- and brother-in-law. We all enjoyed it very much. Be warned that there are 72 steps up to the fifth-floor apartment. It sounds like a lot, but we got used to it and we used it as an excuse to have gelato at the end of the night before heading "home". The apartment was the perfect place from which to explore the city of Lucca as well as nearby towns and cities in Tuscany. It is a very short walk to the bus station and not a far walk to the train station. The apartment is spacious with a sitting area, with TV and a supply of videos and CDs (though we didn't use any of it because there is too much to see and do in Lucca!). We did spend a lot of time out on the gorgeous terrace that overlooks nearby rooftops. It's a perfect place for coffee in the morning, lunch and dinner. We cooked many meals in the well-equipped kitchen. There is dishware/cutlery/glasses for four people as well as some serving dishes, pots and pans and North American-style drip coffeemaker. The apartment has basic supplies and it's easy to pick up whatever you need in town. There is a shopping cart, which makes it easy to bring home groceries. As well as a nearby supermarket, there is a convenient smaller grocery story called CRAI in Piazza del Carmine, which also turned out to be the location of our favourite restaurant, Gigi Trattoria, run by a very charming man who speaks perfect English, German, French and Spanish. The food is terrific, all homemade, and the staff is very attentive. In the apartment, the wifi works so well, we were even able to Skype family back home in Canada from the terrace. As others have mentioned, the apartment has both a dishwasher and washing machine that work very well. (Just don't try to run them at the same time, you'll blow a fuse. This is understandable because it's a charming, but very old building, which wasn't built for having major appliances running simultaneously. The owners responded quickly when we had this problem and when we had other questions.) Everything did work well. Lots of hot water for four people showering the same morning. Overall it was a great place to call home for more than three weeks. We hope to go back someday. Grazie mille, Luciano & Rosa!"

"We have just arrived home from spending 6 nights in Le Macine - what a great place! The house felt very comfortable with beautiful furniture and many of the original features preserved. It is well-maintained and spotlessly clean and contains everything needed while on holidays. We loved the patio and garden in particular. It's a great base to work from with Lucca, Pisa and Florence all within commutable distance by car. Thank you Cristina and family for making us feel so welcome."

A stunning property- everything you could wish for
"This is the most perfect holiday home. The setting is beautiful and the house faultless. It has been renovated in a charming and stylish way- but still feels relaxed to stay in. We had a wonderful time by the pool with the stunning view. The house feels isolated and secluded yet is close to Barga and Lucca was only 40 mins drive away. We couldn't have wished for a nicer place to stay. The owner is extremely helpful but also unobtrusive. She did everything possible to help us have a lovely holiday including providing some basic supplies for our late evening arrival and lots of useful local advice. Highly recommended!"
