  • Live Like a Local in Cetona

"The week we spent in Cetona in this beautiful apartment overlooking the piazza was the best 7 days of our two week trip. We were four adults and two teens traveling and the town is small enough to allow the teens to roam at will, but big enough to have several wonderful restaurants. The apartment was well appointed and spacious. From the morning olfactory wake up call from the bakery, to the refillable, unlabeled wine bottles from the shop across the piazza, staying here felt like home. While there are other places we want to visit before coming back, we would definitely come back to Cetona and stay in this apartment if it is available!"

  • La Terraza In September

"In September, my wife and I stayed for almost two weeks at La Tarazza, Cetona. Although our flight was late arriving into Roma Fiumicino Airport, the Property Manager, was still waiting for us when we arrived and took care of getting our luggage up to the house. When we took our coffee up to the garden next morning to take in the views, we knew we had made a good choice of place to stay. Cetona was clean, quiet and had all the local amenities, including two great restaurants (Nilo’s and Osteria Merio). Our home-away-from-home was very clean and had all the amenities (with exception of microwave, which taught you to do things the “old way” again). While English was not spoken by too many, everyone was willing to converse with you and try to help, which is half the fun for us. The Saturday morning market was a great place to pick up your fruits and vegetables, but don’t touch the fruit, they will select for you, depending on whether you want to eat it that day or in a few days! There are several day hikes from the town and maps are available from the town Tourist Office. If you want to rent bikes, there is a shop in Chuisi (15mins drive) called “Bruscino Noleggio Biciclette Chuisi”. Mountain bikes cost 12Eu/day, but not much selection. A couple of great rides right out of town. “Sentiero Della Bonifica” runs through beautiful countryside up to Arezzo (~40miles one way). Location is perfectly situated between Rome and Florence, with the A1 Autostrada running north/south only 10mins away. This is a toll road, so don’t lose your ticket or you’ll be paying the full 50Eu! There are so many beautiful towns and villages to explore in and around Tuscany and wine country. This time of year, the sunflowers start to die and are being harvested with many fields ploughed over. The contrast of soil colours in just 100 yards, was amazing to see and makes for great photographic opportunities. June/July are the months to see them in full bloom across the rolling hills. Montepulciano, Montalcino, Montefalco wine areas are 40-50 mins. Away. Avignonesi, near Cortona, is one of the better vineyards and does a great tour. You need to book ahead. Overall, we had a wonderful time, and the Property Manager was like a tour guide to us, helping is make arrangements for renting bikes over the phone, since our Italian was limited."

  • A truly magical place

"We have recently returned from a fabulous vacation at La Buro and can't wait to return. It was definitely one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever had. The home is very well maintained and beautifully appointed. Everything you need to enjoy the Tuscan way of life is offered here and the owner, Elizabeth, went out of her way to ensure we would experience a wonderful vacation. The home has a pleasing, calm atmosphere and is positioned perfectly to explore the surrounding area. Our family of seven truly enjoyed the property and we spent many hours exploring the grounds, going on walks, and swimming in the pool. It was the ideal spot for us to stay in terms of being right in the middle of all the medieval towns we were looking forward to exploring. But the house and property itself held so many wonders that it was often difficult for us to pry ourselves away. The children especially never wanted to leave La Buro and we enjoyed many days just hanging around the property and enjoying the outdoors. We cooked many dinners in the well designed, well appointed kitchen and loved eating them in the outdoors dining area with gorgeous views in the evening. It is such a special place and we all adored it. Elizabeth arranged a fantastic Tuscan cooking class for us at a local farm as well as a dinner in the monastery near by. We also enjoyed a farm tour and cheese making experience (goat and sheep) with lunch overlooking the Val d'Orcia and took a short trip to La Foce which I highly recommend. I feel very fortunate to have spent time at this wonderful villa, it is a vacation we will all remember for a long time to come. Sarah (Ottawa, Canada)"

  • Wonderful week in Cetona!

"When I first stood in the doorway of this beautiful house in Cetona, I had to pinch myself. Finally I was actually standing in this amazing place I'd been looking at in pictures for months. Marco's place is absolutely beautiful. The style and design is perfect in every detail, the architectural renovation was carried out splendidly, and you really do have your very own cave at the back of the side sitting room. Marco was so helpful and responsive, from the beginning of my inquiries to the last day when I emailed to ask directions to the nearest gas station for our departure. His daughter met us in Rome to give us the keys and detailed directions, and all of our interactions with both her and Marco have been friendly and helpful. We stayed for a week in Cetona, a wonderful small town with its centuries of history and modern life centered around the main square, the Piazza Garibaldi. We chose this house in part because of the convenience and charm of being able to walk to shops and restaurants, and we especially enjoyed interacting with the kind and friendly people who live there. In a minute we could walk to a wonderful bakery, a deli, a wine shop, a green grocer, other shops, and a larger grocery store up on the main road. We enjoyed delicious meals at the two excellent restaurants just steps from the house, the Ristorante da Nilo and the Osteria del Merlo. Cafe Sport, between the two restaurants, serves up delicious gelato, coffees, and wine by the glass. Cetona is also a great jumping off place to visit the Tuscan hill towns and thermal mineral baths (hot springs). We drove to Siena, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Chianciano, and the Fonteverde spa in San Casciano during our stay. I only wish we'd had more time here, as Umbria is right next door and we never did venture there, nor did we fully explore the small towns scattered around the countryside. We would definitely stay here again, in a heartbeat, and we'd recommend this place to anyone looking to step off the wheel and breathe in the beauty of rural Tuscany for a while. I totally agree with the previous reviewer who stated that you can have expectations as high as you can imagine, and that you will exceed them here. Thanks for everything, Marco, we hope to be your guests again someday! Sonja and Doug"
