"My new husband and I spent a week long retreat here at Poggio Pilella on our honeymoon. We took a train straight into Chiusi and rented a car from Avis and were at the cottage within 10 mins or so.
We were blown away at how beautiful this property was. This gated property is situated on an olive grove and vineyard, the infinity pool and grounds are beautiful! The cottage was perfectly appointed and the owners Stefano and Isabella have impeccable taste. It was super clean, and stocked with everything you would need to cook a perfect Italian meal. And the owners left us with a beautiful bottle of their wine, olive oil and homemade jam. So good!! We spent some afternoons by the pool and evenings cooking in our cottage and star gazing. It was stunning! One night we sat by the warmth of the fireplace. We booked our stay with Linda, who also arranged a cooking class one night and a wine tasting one afternoon. Both of these were such great additions to our trip, and our Brunello Wine tasting with at Abbadia Ardenga will remain one of our favourite days! At the villa, Stefano arranged an olive oil tasting, Carlo was super entertaining and knowledgeable. There are piles of medieval villages within an hour of the villa and we had one of our best meals in Cetona at Osteria del Merlo. We loved everything about our stay here and it was the perfect after staying in the craziness of Rome.
Would definitely recommend this property and hope to come back one day!
Thank you Stefano, Isabella and Linda for making our honeymoon perfect!"

"Our adult family of 6 (3couples) arrived at this charming villa after an easy drive from Rome's airport. All directions provided by the owner worked flawlessly. We found the spacious house, set on a quiet property on the edge of Citta della Pieve, to have a great view of the Tuscan countryside. Yet the villa is only a short walk into town where groceries, shops, restaurants are located. The walk is short, but a bit steep and rocky in parts. Not a problem for those in reasonable condition. Fortunately it is downhill on the way back when you may be loaded down with groceries, etc.
The house has every amenity each of our group wanted. There are even local wines and olive oil fo available for purchase. The friendly local caretakers made themselves available if needed, but were not intrusive in any way. The house and grounds were immaculately cared for, including the swimming pool. It was a little chilly to swim, though our younger family members did. Sitting poolside was an enjoyable way to soak up the Tuscan sun.
With a vehicle, exploring the Italian countryside was very easy to do; but GPS is highly recommended. We found Google maps on an iPhone worked quite well. Short drives took us the Chiusi (train station and sightseeing), Lake Trasimeno, Siena, and Montalcino. Florence was less than 2 hours by train. There were so many interesting sights within easy driving distance, we had a difficult time deciding which to do. It would take 2 weeks to take in everything available.
If available during your visit, all 6 of our group would HIGHLY recommend the owner arranged cooking class and also the wine tasting. Driving to another villa to join other travelers in fun and interesting cooking instruction by a retired Italian couple, who ran a local restaurant for 50 years, was very special indeed. Finishing the evening by eating our self prepared pasta and tiramisu was delightful.
The afternoon wine tasting was another very enjoyable activity. if you like wine, you will thoroughly enjoy this tasting of some excellent Brunello di Montalcino wines, accompanied by a light antipasto. Winemaker Mario, at 80 years of age, is a spry enthusiastic host at this 50 + year old winery. For me it is hard to beat drinking fine Brunello in a small Montalcino winery.
This villa is a comfortable house for 6 adults that is perfectly situated to take advantage of all southern Tuscany and Umbria have to offer."

Charming, secluded beautifull villa in tiny village in Tuscan hills
"What a charming most beautifull villa in a tiny hamlet in the Tuscan hills. Surrounded by the Fighine fortress (now privately owned) a few homes and a darling little churche (not in use but can be visited). All rooms are very well appointed and comfortable with a working fire place and relaxing living room area. The kitchen has all of the necessary cooking tools and appliances in addition to a washing machine. The two bedrooms had their own shower equiped bathrooms and were imaculately clean just like the rest of the villa. To our surprise a high speep wifi had just been installed and it was a bonus that we did not expect allowing us to keep in touch with family and friends back home. Considering that it was late in the season the pool had been removed. The grounds and gazebo with table and chairs were well maintained including a BBQ. There are basically 2 dirt road accesses to the hamlet with pretty villages within 20 minutes to half an hour with great restaurants (very reasonalble) especially Daniella in Castiganio di Bagni. Great base for day trips in both Tuscany and Umbria.
The info provided by both the property manager Linda and the owners Grazzia and Cesare was very helpfull in deciding on our daily itinerary.
Crucial to the enjoyment was the easy communications with Linda the property manager, always responding to our queries within a day or two. The owners were very nice and helpfull. When we could not operate the washing machine Cesare was there the next morning to fix it.
We were also fortunate to meet Linda as she was in the area to arrange a wedding. She organized a cooking class for us at another villa. It was fun and gave us a chance to exchange info with other guests. Thank you to Linda, Grazzia and Cesare for making our vacation memorable.
I would recommend this villa for 2 couples or small family wanting privacy and to relax."

"We rented the villa for a group of 14 friends and family members. The configuration of the rooms into various "suites" was ideal for our group, and provided a very useful mix of private time in the suites as well as time with the group in the common dining and living room areas. The location of the villa was also ideal as a central location for trips to San Gimignano, Sienna, Orvieto, Assisi, Florence, Cetona, Chiusi and many other small hill towns. We rented four cars and had a wonderful time exploring the Tuscan/Umbria countryside. As noted in other reviews, the WiFi is inconsistent. I'd also strongly recommend either bringing a GPS unit with an installed Italy map, or renting one from your car rental agency. It was priceless and aided our explorations immensely!
Linda was fabulous in helping us with our stay. Her advice as to things to see and towns to visit was invaluable, particularly since our visit spanned two Italian national holidays. The connections she has made with local wineries, restaurants and shopkeepers was also very valuable.
In summary, our stay went without a hitch. We'll be back...."
