  • A relaxing week in Tuscany

"Our adult family of 6 (3couples) arrived at this charming villa after an easy drive from Rome's airport. All directions provided by the owner worked flawlessly. We found the spacious house, set on a quiet property on the edge of Citta della Pieve, to have a great view of the Tuscan countryside. Yet the villa is only a short walk into town where groceries, shops, restaurants are located. The walk is short, but a bit steep and rocky in parts. Not a problem for those in reasonable condition. Fortunately it is downhill on the way back when you may be loaded down with groceries, etc. The house has every amenity each of our group wanted. There are even local wines and olive oil fo available for purchase. The friendly local caretakers made themselves available if needed, but were not intrusive in any way. The house and grounds were immaculately cared for, including the swimming pool. It was a little chilly to swim, though our younger family members did. Sitting poolside was an enjoyable way to soak up the Tuscan sun. With a vehicle, exploring the Italian countryside was very easy to do; but GPS is highly recommended. We found Google maps on an iPhone worked quite well. Short drives took us the Chiusi (train station and sightseeing), Lake Trasimeno, Siena, and Montalcino. Florence was less than 2 hours by train. There were so many interesting sights within easy driving distance, we had a difficult time deciding which to do. It would take 2 weeks to take in everything available. If available during your visit, all 6 of our group would HIGHLY recommend the owner arranged cooking class and also the wine tasting. Driving to another villa to join other travelers in fun and interesting cooking instruction by a retired Italian couple, who ran a local restaurant for 50 years, was very special indeed. Finishing the evening by eating our self prepared pasta and tiramisu was delightful. The afternoon wine tasting was another very enjoyable activity. if you like wine, you will thoroughly enjoy this tasting of some excellent Brunello di Montalcino wines, accompanied by a light antipasto. Winemaker Mario, at 80 years of age, is a spry enthusiastic host at this 50 + year old winery. For me it is hard to beat drinking fine Brunello in a small Montalcino winery. This villa is a comfortable house for 6 adults that is perfectly situated to take advantage of all southern Tuscany and Umbria have to offer."

  • Old friends gathering in Tuscany

"Our group consisted of 6 couples that have been friends for decades but this was our first attempt at a week long vacation. The villa was the perfect place. All of the bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable. There was space for privacy. The house and grounds were immaculate. They prepared a delicious dinner our first night which we enjoyed so much that we all agreed to ask them to do it again our last night. Upon arrival, Jacopo met us in town to guide us to the villa which was very helpful since in August some of the streets are closed to traffic. Jacopo and Fabio were never in the way or even visible but magically appeared whenever we needed anything or had a question. As a result we felt free to enjoy ourselves but never needed to wait for help when we wanted it."

  • Perfect Honeymoon Retreat!!

"My new husband and I spent a week long retreat here at Poggio Pilella on our honeymoon. We took a train straight into Chiusi and rented a car from Avis and were at the cottage within 10 mins or so. We were blown away at how beautiful this property was. This gated property is situated on an olive grove and vineyard, the infinity pool and grounds are beautiful! The cottage was perfectly appointed and the owners Stefano and Isabella have impeccable taste. It was super clean, and stocked with everything you would need to cook a perfect Italian meal. And the owners left us with a beautiful bottle of their wine, olive oil and homemade jam. So good!! We spent some afternoons by the pool and evenings cooking in our cottage and star gazing. It was stunning! One night we sat by the warmth of the fireplace. We booked our stay with Linda, who also arranged a cooking class one night and a wine tasting one afternoon. Both of these were such great additions to our trip, and our Brunello Wine tasting with at Abbadia Ardenga will remain one of our favourite days! At the villa, Stefano arranged an olive oil tasting, Carlo was super entertaining and knowledgeable. There are piles of medieval villages within an hour of the villa and we had one of our best meals in Cetona at Osteria del Merlo. We loved everything about our stay here and it was the perfect after staying in the craziness of Rome. Would definitely recommend this property and hope to come back one day! Thank you Stefano, Isabella and Linda for making our honeymoon perfect!"

  • Perfection!!

"Staying at this Villa for 7 days was the ending of our travels through Europe for the month. What a beautiful and relaxing way to wrap up our holiday. I chose this Villa based on the consistency of the 5 star reviews. I have never seen that level of consistent high ratings before so I was prepared for less than 5 star experience, however, I was so wrong. I was pleasantly surprised to find that all reviews were spot on!! The villa was immaculate upon arrival and exactly as advertised on the website. The property is very pretty and quiet, just as shown in the photos on this site. We took many walks to the small town of Citta della Pieve where we enjoyed friendly warm and welcoming individuals, excellent meals, and of course Gelato. This town is a charming quintessential small Italian town. In the evenings it comes alive with people who obviously know each other and fill the streets with laughter. You are enveloped in the feeling of a small art community with deep roots and historic tales to tell. Jacopo has his own line of wine and olive oil from his property which we imbibed and enjoyed nightly…. He leaves wine and olive oil in the Villa and operates on the "honor system". We commented nightly how amazed we were comparing his 8 Euro bottle of wine to our $30 wine bottle purchases in the states. Such a treat! Another review commented on lack of music options and I second that comment. Maybe Jacopo would consider adding a music option to the Villa. There is a lovely simplicity to the grounds. Every morning the pool and grounds are cleaned so you arise to a fresh sparkling environment each day. And while Jacopo is on site every day to attend to these enhancements, he is ultra-respectful of your privacy - most of the time he comes and goes without you being aware of his presence. The Villa is tranquil and quiet at night and in the early morning. We slept with windows open every night and rested to the subtle sounds of crickets and light breezes through the valley. The main views from the house offer only olive groves and Umbrian hillsides. There is a resident fox who visited us each evening as we enjoyed the outside dining area. We were shocked at the fox’s comfort in our company. Spending a week in an Italian Villa has been on my bucket list for years. This Villa met every detail of my imagined experience when I created my bucket list."
