  • A Taste of Heaven

"What does one say when you come across a physical space that embraces you, renews you and makes it oh so easy to live. Il Conventaccio is a most special and remarkable place to be. I cannot thank the owners sufficiently for the care and effort and vision they had in restoring this 12 century convent property from it ruinous state into the elegant and comfortable home that they have. From the minute you arrive you can only gasp at the beauty of the entire surroundings as you sense the peacefulness within the walls and throughout the land on which it sits. Five of us had ventured from the US for a two week respite and we found a taste of heaven. There is nothing in Conventaccio that was done without great thought and in the most exquisite of tastes. The area is charming and enchanting as one of the many hill towns with its own unique individual history and storied past. All that you read regarding the home's spaciousness and comfort is true but the words cannot capture the deep sense of place and peace it evokes as you spend time there. The mornings are simply wonderful as you awake to the dawn and the sun shows its face, the birds sing, and the neighboring bells begin their toll. You arise to see a stunningly beautiful Umbrian landscape from your window which is calling you to greet another beautiful day in Umbria. Simply breathtaking and the owners have many kind recommendations along with the gracious assistance of their caretaker which makes your stay at Conventaccio so very easy and one which will beckon you to return. WOW"

  • very tranquil place

"We stayed here with 3 families and 3 generations in each. Lots of space and room to relax without getting on top of each other. We are repeat visitors but this time we stayed the longest. Good food and wine available locally and the bbq facilities are fantastic as is the restaurant if you plan to be catered for. The meals are great. The rooms are clean tidy and functional while retaining the Tuscan/Umbrian charm. There are lots of good walks on the property or for the more adventurous the local peaks aee a must do."

  • Unforgettable

"This is a special house that is meticulously clean and beautifully appointed. Everything is as pictured, but no picture can record the intangibles about this property. It has been lived in by people who love it and is greater than the sum of its parts. If you love art, color, and living in the clouds this is the place for you. La Torre is high above the valley with a stunning view of Spoleto across the gorge. I rented for two weeks and had two friends join me for nine days. It was perfect for the three of us as house is on three levels with a good bit of privacy. I also felt safe on the days that i was there alone. There is a hot tub surrounded on two sides by rosemary and lavender cascading down the wall. There is always room on the terrace for visitors, dinner, or just relaxing. Be ready to climb a bit but we all stayed without a car as Spoleto is only a 20 minute walk through the woods and across the aquaduct. In addition to art, there is a dwindling collection of CDs with includes John Coltrane's Coltrane Plays the Blues. Every evening we would pop in the music and watch the clouds shift and occasional rain on the horizon, on top of the world in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Be ready to walk and climb, there is a lot to see and do in every direction. The driveway is a challenge that I did not face as we walked down to the train station almost every day to head out to neighboring hill towns."
