  • San Giuseppe!

"VRBO #232190 I came to Italy for three weeks to study la bella lingua at an “immersion” school in Lucca. The quiet apartment on Via Galli Tassi is a short walk—by various routes—to the school. The owner of the apartment, Giuseppe, è molto gentile. Not only are the accommodations perfect for one person, he offered me the use of una bicicletta, which I rode on the walls and through the streets of Lucca. On my last day, Palm Sunday, Giuseppe came by to carry my suitcase down the stairs and drive me to the train station. As I was waiting on the platform, it was announced that the train was cancelled. Un sciopero! Insisting that he could not leave his guest stranded, he drove me to the airport in Florence to make my connection. San Giuseppe!"

  • What a great holiday and lovely house

"We stayed in the house for a week from saterday untill saterday end of April. We visited with our kids aged 2 and 4. We really enjoyed this lovely house and the surroundings. Everyday we had breakfast on the terrace just outside the kitchen. Then we went to the piazza (the little square) for some coffee and just watch the local Italian life come to life. Stimigliano is a nice small village where you are the only tourists. Very friendly people. In the afternoon we mostly stayed at the pool cause the kids loved it. I also liked the fact that the pool and terrace were very close to the house so you don't loose sight of the kids. In the evening we went to the restaurant Da Lina for pizza or pasta. We also tried a restaurant in Vescuvio which was very nice connected to a church. But Da Lina was just 5 min drive from the house so very convenient and great food. Thanks for mentioning the new outlet shopping center outside of Stimigliano in your welcome book, I enjoyed going shopping there. We had planned to take the train from Stimigliano to Rome for a day but we loved relaxing at the pool so much we never got to it! We will have to come back next year. Thanks for a lovely week. Greetz Anna Lambrechts & family"

  • Great location, wonderful people

"I went with friends for a long weekend in Favignana in late April this year. The villa dei gabbiani is a wonderful place with a perfect location not far from the main urban area but fully immersed in the typical Favignana landscape. You are also close to all the key spots in the islands and moving around in a bicycle is great. The houses are very clean and with all the necessary services. There is a very beautiful outside area where you can have a drink and/or eat. There is also a wonderful rooftop terrace from where you can see an amazing 3600 view. You relax immediately with the scent of the surrounding vegetation (an extremely well kept garden) and the singing of birds early and late in the day. Most importantly, the hosts, Rosalia and Pino are great and extremely welcoming. You should not hesitate to ask for any advice for where to go, restaurants etc. Enjoy!!!!"

Umbria Travel Tips

The Green Heart of Italy--Umbria

Famous for its wonderful wines and sumptuous olives, Umbria Italy villas are perfect choices for visitors wanting to explore the real Italy. Located next to its more famous neighbor of Tuscany, this landlocked region boasts so many ancient towns and cities that it is impossible to describe each one. The weather ranges from mild winters to warm dry summers.

Getting into the Heart of Italy is Well Worth the Effort

To get to Umbria, fly to Rome and choose either the high-speed railway or rent a car to fully explore this historic area. Airlines such as Al Italia and Delta provide flights from most U.S. international airports to Rome. Another option is to fly to London and then to Perugia in Umbria. The main towns of Umbria include the regional capital, Perugia and Assisi, Citta di Castello, Bastia Umbria, Terni, Gubbio, and Foligno. These towns and many others possess a unique charm and character all its own. You'll find even more unique character in Umbria Italy vacation rentals.

From Buzzing with Life to Peace and Tranquility

Visitors to Umbria Italy vacation rentals will discover a beautiful region--an unspoiled jewel dating from medieval days. With so much on offer, visitors may wonder where to start. A good place may be at Assisi, at the Basilica de San Francesco. This monument to St. Francis is one of Italy’s most famous Renaissance churches. The views over the valley below and mountain backdrop make this a "not to be missed" part of any trip.

In Gubbio, with lovely pink houses with terracotta roofs, visitors discover a determinedly medieval city which prides itself on its history. The regional capital of Perugia is a buzzing town with wonderful restaurants and nightlife. While here, visitors may want to explore Lake Trasimeno for a swim, windsurfing or some sailing.

This region is steeped in history. When planning a sightseeing trip, visitors should consider the Rocca Maggiore castle, the Church of San Pierto, dedicated to Saint Benedict, dating back to the 10th century. The Palazzo dei Priori (Priori Palace) is a medieval palace that is a must-see.

When planning a trip here, allocate some culture time and take in some of the variety of museums. With so many, no matter where your chosen Umbria Italy villa is located, you are bound to find several close by. The National Gallery at Perugia includes several famous masterpieces and the National Archaeological Museum of Umbria is another not to be overlooked. For more up-to-date culture, try the Gallery of Contemporary Art at Spoleto or the Civic Museum at Gubbio to see the famous Eugubine tables, seven bronze plates dating from the 2nd century BC.

Do not be fooled into thinking these beautiful, historic towns and villages have nothing to offer after the darkness falls. Whether it is romantic dining al fresco by candlelight in a medieval square followed by a quiet stroll through ancient streets or dancing the night away, you will find it here. Theater-lovers will enjoy discovering the Communal Theater Todio, the Lyric Theater, Sant Eufemia, or one of the large selection of theaters around the area.

Shop till You Drop near Umbria Italy Accommodations

Two major local products in the region are excellent wine and scrumptious chocolate. For wine, why not buy direct from the Tenuta Poggio el Lupo Winery, near Orvieto? For chocolate-lovers, head to historic Perugia lodging. If you are planning a trip in October, the "Euro-Chocolate" festival will be a chocoholic's dream! For mementos and gifts, explore the many markets. In Spoleto, the monthly market provides great gifts or the Bastia, Piazza Mazzini market sells everything from Italian ceramics to wonderful antique jewelry; see Umbria travel guide on iGuide for additional helpful tourist information.

Why Choose an Umbria Italy Villa

The freedom afforded by renting a home rather than being tied to the restrictions of hotels provides travelers the space to relax after a wonderful day of sightseeing, shopping, and exploring the region. These villas come equipped with everything necessary to make a comfortable and home-like environment and the opportunity to live an Italian lifestyle for your vacation. What more could anyone want?
