"From the first time we met Catherine and Martin we felt like we had known them for years. We were greeted with a fire in the hearth and warm home baked raisin scones and fresh flowers from Catherine's garden. Our grand children loved the dogs, puppies, horses, foal, donkeys, sheep and cattle. They also liked the donkey rides that Martin so generously gave them. I almost forgot to mention that numerous bunnies scurried about the place. The cottage was accurately described. It was clean and well maintained. We definitely got everything that we were promised. There are 2 lakes , Lake Carra and Lake Mask close by. Both are beautiful and crystal clear. We loved Cong and visited Ashford Castle as well as Ballintubber Abbey, Connemara, and Galway City. We visited the bog and saw the peat being saved for next winter's fuel. There were so many things to see/do on the farm that I wish that I could assemble a brochure of the place. Martin has a beautiful singing voice and he sings in a pub close by each weekend. I would definitely recommend this place to friends. My husband, son and family and my daughter and her husband all agree that the time that they spent in Green acres was one of the best vacations that they ever enjoyed. A month was definitely not long enough. We would love to return in the future. Anne McHugh"

"We loved this apartment. We felt like we were staying in a friend's home, not a rental apartment. It was decorated beautifully and had all the touches to make you feel comfortable and cozy. The location was excellent. We were close to a lot of the main sights yet off the main streets enough to be away from the noise of the city. The metro was right down the street so we had the city readily available to us. The manager, Felibrune, was available in the apartment below us or by phone at any time. The kitchen had all the basics, including coffee, sugar, seasonings etc. (This may seem like a given but we have stayed where there is nothing). We loved this apartment and highly recommend it. Can't wait to come back!!"

Netherlands Travel Tips

Finding Your Way to the Netherlands

The main travel hub in the Netherlands is Amsterdam. Schipol Airport, which is located on the city outskirts, is the fourth busiest airport in Europe. The airport hosts both domestic and international flights from Europe and many other parts of the world. There are many direct flights to Amsterdam from the major cities in North America. The airport has good rail and road links to Amsterdam and the surrounding communities so getting to your travel destination is easy. Rail is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to tour the Netherlands. Almost every town and city has a railway station and frequent train schedules. In the cities, there are also many local metro trains and buses that provide public transportation. If you enjoy being active on your vacation, one of the best ways to explore is by bicycle. The Netherlands is one of the most bicycle-friendly destinations with marked cycle paths and detailed route maps for getting around. Because the landscape is relatively flat, it is is not strenuous work and you can cover quite a lot of mileage in a day.

Visitors to Netherlands Accommodation

The Netherlands is a destination that has a wealth of cultural attractions. Anyone who has an interest in European history and culture will have great fun exploring the many historical sites and museums. If you enjoy walking and cycling, the Netherlands is the ideal destination for you to explore independently. If you decide you have had enough exercise for the day but have still not reached your destination, you can simply hop on a bus or train to travel the remaining distance to your destination.

Those with an interest in art will want to spend some time in Amsterdam where famous painters like Rembrant lived. The Netherlands is considered a very modern society where there is much tolerance for all different types of people. Many activities that are illegal in many other parts of the world are practiced openly. If you are a more conservative type of person, be aware of where you are exploring so you don't find yourself getting offended.

Netherlands Travel Attractions

Most travelers spend their time in the four main cities, namely Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. These cities are the most populated parts of the Netherlands and contain many of the major cultural and historical attractions. Amsterdam is a city filled with beautiful architecture, interesting museums, scenic canals and many coffee shops. It is the main travel destination within the Netherlands. The Hague is a historical city and the residence of the Dutch Royal family. It is also home to the international judiciary. Utrecht has a beautiful historic center and several interesting museums. Rotterdam is the most modern of the Dutch cities and known for its vibrant nightlife.

Favorite Time of Year to Visit the Netherlands

The Netherlands is located in the northwestern part of Central Europe. It has a relatively temperate climate owing to its flat landscape and proximity to the North Sea. Winters are cold and wet although rainfall occurs throughout the year. The summer days are generally long and warm, and ideal for touring and exploring. Accordingly, summer is the peak travel season. June and July are the busiest months of the year but the weather is typically warm from May through September. The landscape is green and interspersed with orchards, fields of flowers and quaint towns. If you are traveling to the Netherlands just for the culture and history, you can choose your travel season. While the weather may not be ideal, most museums remain open all throughout the year.
