  • “Perfect location in a comfortable tastefully decorated well equiped apartment”

"We stayed here for 10 days in October of 2014 and couldn't be happier with the rental. We arrived on a direct flight from Boston at 8 AM and were med by Linda, a good friend of the owner, who drove us to the apartment and got us situated with a gift of wine and cheese. She also drove us to our departing flight which was convenient but not necessary since a cab or train/bus combination was also available. First of all the location is just steps from the best beach on this coast. We happened to be there for excellent weather (some said better than the summer) so we enjoyed swimming, watching the surfers, photographing, walking, and dining at the many restaurants that line the promenade. Then it was just a 10 minute walk to the train station where a round trip ticket to Lisbon is around $5 and takes 20 minutes on a train arriving every twenty minutes. We spent a lot of time in Lisbon since the city has so much to offer with its history, architecture, and restaurants. I would highly recommend this apartment if you plan to spend a lot of time touring Lisbon. The square behind the complex had a wide range of restaurants and our favorite was Restaurante Marisqueira Atlântico where we feasted twice. Our favorite dish was the sauteed cuttlefish. An extensive grocery store was available at the Riviera center two blocks away. Located on a corner, the apartment is on the 1st floor (1 above ground) with a balcony that wraps around the perimeter: perfect for an afternoon glass/bottle of wine and watching people coming from the beach. There is a steady breeze and the large windows that give the apartment a light airy feeling. Because there were so many wonderful restaurants in the area we didn't spend much time cooking in the kitchen but if we had wanted to it was very modern and well equipped. Also since the apartment was recently remodeled the bathrooms were up to date with excellent showers and the entire apartment was tastefully furnished."

Algarve Region Travel Tips

Best Season to Visit Algarve Vacation Rentals

The Algarve is known as Portugal’s sunshine coast. The warm weather and long days make it one of Europe’s top summer destinations. The main attraction is the beaches where holiday makers spend their days lazing about and working on their tans, as well as playing beach volleyball and racquetball or swimming. The peak season runs from early June to late August and during this time, the beaches and attractions can get quite crowded. Those wanting to avoid the crowds should consider traveling before the summer rush in May, or in late August and early September. The warm weather tends to hold until October. Towards the end of the month, the winter rains start to set in. The winter temperatures, while cold, are still relatively mild compared to northern Europe. In general, the Algarve is thought of as having a mild year-round climate. If your interests are more historical and cultural, you might consider traveling in spring or autumn. Many of the museums are open throughout the year.

Getting to Algarve Holiday Rentals

The primary access airport for the Algarve region is located in the city of Faro. The airport has an international designation and hosts flights on many of Europe’s national carriers. There are regular daily flights from London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich and Lisbon. Most often, travelers from North America will fly into Lisbon and then get a domestic connection on to Faro. Alternatively, you can also look at flights into any of the other European hubs that has regular daily flights into Faro.

One of the most efficient ways to travel around Portugal is by train. In fact, many people recommend taking the train between Lisbon and Faro as it’s far cheaper and you also get to enjoy some of Portugal’s scenery. There is an extensive bus transportation system throughout the Algarve. The buses are clean, cheap and efficiently run. The buses are well marked so you can see their destinations. During the summer season, they run regularly, providing easy access to the many towns and fishing villages along the coast. If you prefer to have a level of independence, you may consider hiring a car. There are a number of reputable rental agencies located in Faro.

Top Algarve Travel Attractions

The Algarve has two major attractions that make it one of Europe’s most popular summer tourist destinations, namely great golfing and the beaches. The Algarve has more than 20 championship 18-hole golf courses. Many have been designed by famous golfers who have each placed their distinctive mark on their individual courses. Enthusiastic golfers often design specific golfing tours where they can visit a great number of the courses and enjoy a round at each. For the rest of the visitors, the beaches are possibly the greatest attraction and much of the tourist activity revolves around them.

There are numerous towns and fishing villages dotted along the coast. Each has a collection of historical buildings and some beautiful churches. Food is a celebration in the Algarve and dining out or shopping for fresh produce is an experience in itself. Many of the local dishes are flavored with the traditional Portuguese Peri Peri which is a spicy chilli sauce. Seafood dishes are a speciality and you can enjoy the catch of the day at many of the seaside restaurants.
