  • Apartment in Alfama District

"If you want to stay in the Alfama District this apartment is in a great location. However if I had to do it over again, I would stay outside the Lisbon Old Town areas and make day trips in. Ellie, the owner, is extremely helpful both before and during your stay and works hard to make your experience a good one.The apartment is good for a couple and all the basics are there for you to cook. I cooked 3 of our 4 nights. Definitely go to the other grocery store (about a 4 minute further walk) in Graca instead of the DIA. Graca is just up the street and we ate an incredible meal at a restaurant recommended by Ellie. My only 2 negative comments are...even after 4 days I still couldn't get the shower to stay warm...it was either hot or cold. Also, and Ellie is not happy with this either, a "club" has opened up right down the street and the apartment windows look directly on this. There are people drinking and socializing from noon to midnight, which put a damper on the ambiance of the place, although I never felt unsafe."

  • Great getaway in Alfama

"We stayed here for five nights in May with another couple and it was a great apartment to rent. Especially during the Champions soccer final - away from the crowds at the end of the day. The son of the owner picked us up at the airport - which was very helpful. The apartment came with wine, beer, water, fruit and honey which was a pleasant surprise. You just mark down what you eat and drink and leave cash at the end of your stay. Delicious honey! The washing machine was great! The owners leave a manual about the area with restaurant and food shopping recommendations. On the first night we went across the street for Fado and dinner - such a great experience. To get around, no need to rely on Tram 28, just walk to the right when leaving the apartment and head down the hill to the Apolonia station and take the metro anywhere. Get a pass for the number of days you are in town. The pass includes the tram and all buses too. The owners were great, dealt with a clogged shower drain quickly. If you have mobility issues, you may struggle with the Alfama area, and the stairs to the apartment, but otherwise a great deal for a lovely apartment. So nice to have a little terrace too."
